What is the point of VAR?

Pre VAR we had to rely on the honesty and skill of refs and linesmen. There was virtually no comeback for some of the ridiculous and biased decisions inflicted on clubs.
VAR was welcomed because we believed that the new system with the play slowed down and subject to expert analysis , would give us near perfect judgements on tap.
What we did not realise was that the same refs who were capable of ridiculous decisions now have the last word again.

Perhaps VAR comes up with the correct rulings more than refs did without aid in the past, but this has had the effect of having every item of a goal analysed and thus a lot of immediate pleasure of the game has been lost.
Maybe VAR with its added disadvantages of often over 10 minutes of waiting for decisions to take into account , is not worth the hassle.

It has gone from correcting "clear and obvious errors" to minutely examining every nuance of complicated events.

If it takes 4-5 minutes to analyse a decision has a "clear and obvious error" occurred?
