Cheshire is the southernmost part of the North on the west coast.

I always assume that the North starts as you cross the Trent on the A1M. However I think some clever people worked out that it started at Newark, a few years back.

I remember Cameron & Osbourne's Northern Poorhouse that Wharton ended up heading up. From memory, their definition of north seemed to go about as far up the country as Sheffield.

I always use Yorkshire and Lancashire southern boundaries pre-1968.

It’s just that it seems to be a generic term where govt funding is concerned and it’s incredibly vague like we’re all some homogeneous blob just out side of London

as the south east is always separated and quantified as such as they never say the “south”.

So just over 2 billion allocated to this ambiguous north ???

I thought the north was anything above the imaginary diagonal line Chester across to Scunthorpe west to east.
Midlands is from that line - Chester across to Scunny line down to next diagonal line Boston across to Bristol, below that is the south.
