What has been our worst transfer decision?

Davenport. For what he cost and what he was brought in to do, his goals return was desperately poor. He was a huge factor in us being relegated that season, no question.

Payton (I accept he was injured for most of his time here). Was brought in to replace Bernie and didn't.

Mido. Less said the better.

Ricketts. £3.5m. Is it any wonder Maccarone was crying at the league cup final?

Boyd. Looked bone idle and out of shape. Goes on loan to Forest and gets six in ten for them. Maybe Strachan getting the push was a factor? Who knows.

Kris Boyd is a great reason to look at the overall game of a cf not just goal return. Despite 6 in 10 for them and 6 in 18 starts for us, he ended up shipped off to the us the next season.

Rangers never used to play him in big games because he was worse than useless when you team were out of position and couldn’t interplay with forwards. You should played with 10 men for 75% of the game.see Britt Assombalonga too

We would have played someone else who didn’t fall over give the ball away for 89 mins per game. We would have still been in the championship, maybe have done better as a team, but would have saved approx 23m in transfer and wages.

15m never forget that, that’s an enormous amount for a championship player who never even scored 20 at that level and still hasn’t 6 years later.

That transfer financially screwed us for 7 years

Yep, we could have signed Gestede, Fletcher, Ameobi or someone simila a bit earlier, and the goals would have flowed.

Given we haven't had a striker in over 30 years who got 20 goals a season (before Akpom) it's a bit unfair to pull Asombolonga up for that.

Also you're just being silly claiming "he fell over and gave the ball away for 89 minutes per game".

He averaged 11 goals a season for us. Forss got 10 from half a season on the wing last year and cost about 5 times less than Britt.

- Crooks got 10 from midfield the season before, and cost about 10% of Britts fee and probably 20k/week cheaper.
- Watmore got 21 goals in 55 starts for us, comparable to Britts strike rate, he cost nothing, was on moderate money, was sold at profit and actually worked out of possession and created too.
- Leadbitter a midfielder even got 11 one season, that's the same as Britts average, again, a free transfer.

Britt cost the club a record transfer fee, it was the highest inter-championship transfer at the time, by some margin, he was on huge wages. For that you need to be off the charts goal scoring, 30 goals a season, or you need to be massively creative. You have to be the difference maker that will take it to the promotion contenders, not be handicapping you.

He wasn't close to any of those things. In four seasons he only really took it to West Brom in one game, when he came off the bench. Other than that he was a waste of space vs the top teams.

He was a disaster of a signing, 23m with no return, no promotion, no sell on value and of course, a massive black hole in our FFP calculations for 4 seasons.

We might as well have got a skip, but it 8 yards from goal, filled it with 2million £10 notes, set fire to it and tried to ping balls off it into the net.

I'm sure he's a nice guy though.
