What does Lenihan bring to the party?

We must be playing this bloke a fortune captain of Blackburn free transfer. We woulda been better giving Nathan Wood a pay rise and keeping him couldn't of done any worse

He was suppposed to have been outstanding against us at Blackburn last season. I didn't see that match, was that right?

I was looking at some old BR forum posts regarding Lenihan and people mentioned he was a midfielder who played at centre back(about like McNair and Djiksteel). So I had a look at a couple of old articles and both had him down as a midfielder and captained RoI under 21s as a midfielder.

Maybe he’ll be better in midfield.

Fry is a much bigger worry, I'm sick of watching him running through treacle.
To be fair to Wilder I understand why he brought Lenihan in, given we were already seemingly strong in that position with Fry and at first it may have seemed a little odd.

But that position is critical to Wilders system, both in terms of moving the ball from the back and setting the tempo and also organising the team defensively, more so than in a back 4, where defensive responsibility is more rigid and less covering is needed.

In both respects I think he is an upgrade on Fry. That's not to say he is a 'better' player than Fry, just that he was more suited to the system. Much more.

Ironically though I actually expect to see them partnered in a back 4 under Carrick, as part of a 4-2-3-1.
