What do you dislike about Christmas?

I bumped into someone I know earlier. Gave him a hello and handshake. He said all the best if I don’t see you! It took me a second to realise he was meaning Christmas and New Year!

By the way. All this Christmas and New Year stuff is just made up human myths. Same as religion, laws and stuff. Humans live in a fantasy world.

I can't think of anything I dislike about it. Obviously in a secularised society there's little religious meaning to it, but I'm not a religious person in any case and it's now a short holiday that involves parties and presents. I enjoy putting on a festive songs vinyl on my granddad's old record player (now at our house) just like he did when I was a child. Most of all, I enjoy going back to Yarm and seeing my whole family and I enjoy seeing my wife's family, too. They're Spurs and Cobblers fans and always look out for the Boro results now. I always get the Radio Times and highlight the things I want to watch (on catch up rather than VHS).

I have two kids, both under 10, so they have the same anticipation that I had growing up and it rubs off on you even in your forties. I even enjoy the work Christmas party as I work with a nice bunch of people who come from all over the world, so it's interesting to hear what they do at that time of year, especially if they are of a different faith.

Nothing I really dislike about Christmas, although as touched upon already I like Christmas to be around the Christmas period - decorations up on the 1st. A friends wife has taken the role on of being Mrs Christmas and jokingly got them down early to "help the kids out" during coronavirus but now gets them down pretty much as soon as Halloween stuff is put away as it is the new tradition they have.

I feel like it cheapens it a bit when it goes on from November 1st to a few days into January.

3 bank holidays is not to be sniffed at, if your work contact offers you bank holidays, not all do. Quite a few in my work place don't get bank holidays, but I guess 4 on 4 off means you only work half a year anyway.
And I do like family time, I just can't bare the pressure Christmas puts on people, having to spend money you don't have just to keep up with the neighbours and worse, family.

Sadly Christmas is a shadow of it's once-self.

Sadly Christmas is a shadow of it's once-self.
Choosing to, not having to.

Having to be in two places at the same time. My parents or the wife's.
Eventually it ends, though.
I used to like it when people decorated their houses with lights (when energy was affordable).

I also like parsnips.

I love Christmas but I would be lying if I said I don’t find it annoying seeing people constantly boasting about what they’ve done on for it on Facebook/Instagram.

Another reason to avoid them.

The only thing I dislike about Christmas is that long ago, Christians pegged it to the pagan winter festival instead of the summer solstice.

Imagine having all that family time with the garden to utilise and the ability to get outdoor toys that the kids would be happy to use.
I can imagine that quite easily down here in NZ. It’s a glorious 23 in Christchurch today.

Love Christmas particularly classical traditions. The modern stuff and modern music not so much but that’s me.

Went to the Kew Christmas lights last night. Lights were fabulous but the accompanying cheesy music almost ruined it. Blenheim Palace lights much better because of the way they present them.

I love Christmas. Absolutely adore it.
However, the early creep of decorations does irk me somewhat. I feel it dilutes that sudden bright spring of decorations in early December.

I suppose Christmas related, the lack of public transport on Boxing Day for the Boro game is an annoyance as well.
