Was at Leeds away, 1980 ish, and was stood with my mate who was one of the quietest and best behaved lads I know. Police pulled him out of a packed crowd and he ended up getting charged. Went to court with him to give evidence and the scumbag copper lied through his teeth, I think that the magistrates actually completely didn't believe the copper. But my mate still ended up bound over to keep the peace.
I know this copper was still the exception but why didn't the police deal with their bad apples who gave them such a bad name. During that period it was very common to hear the police referred to as "pigs", thankfully not so much now.
