What do Everton, Wolves and West Ham know the we don't

I agree , he absolutely has potential and the attributes to be successful, but I am not sure about his situational awareness and his ability to just switch off and forget what his job is supposed to be.

Can that be coached into him? if so he might well go on to have a top class career, if not, I suspect he will bounce around a few clubs till he finds one that will accommodate him.

I don't know that it necessarily needs to be coached. It's exactly the sort of thing that comes with experience. Experience is the most underrated quality by football fans because it's not sexy, and it's not immediately apparent how it helps, but these are prime examples.

I agree - the tactical and positional side of the game generally come with experience. Younger players tend to be picked up for either their physical attributes (pace, power) or technical skill. I'd argue Djed is decent at both of them. There are very few young players who come through with the ability to read the game, understand positioning, anticipate etc - I'd argue that most of those go on to be world class players (Pedri for instance).

I'm not suggesting Djed will reach those levels but with the right coach able to pinpoint his exact requirements he may go far.

He has already been released once by a club who could have afforded to nurture potential.
He will be sold at a good profit because he has not improved and not shown the exciting attributes that he did when he first emerged.
Those using this to criticise Warnock have that as their primary agenda and any stick will do.
Warnock will recommend the sale of Spence at a good profit and because he doesn’t see him playing much.

Did somebody above really dismiss attitude as a crucial factor?
And did they question Craig Johnston for his in the same post?
Not sure how much more rubbish they could cram into the one post.

I remember Woodgate saying his running stats were off the charts compared to the rest of the squad. It’s that kind of thing that gets you noticed by the top clubs these days and for the fee mentioned, it’s a nothing gamble for a club in the Premier league who could sell him on in 2 or 3 years if it doesn’t pay off.

I think Spence is a very good player.

The previous boo boy as dale fry. He is arguably pair best player.

If he’s as good as people say he is then I’d take the money and run - that money may help us get promoted.

Fair point but remember they can only carry so many in their squads . No real room for projects at a top level team itself . Hence in step nursery clubs
I don't think he's good enough for us right now, and that's when he's our player, I'd have no interest in him playing for us back on loan.

I'd sell him. Often seems too laidback and lackadaisical in games to me. Makes me worried he won't really improve by much now. We often seem to cling on to some players a while too long. He could be leaving for zilch in a few years ala Assomba and Fletcher.

I also wouldn't bother forgoing any amount of up front transfer fees for a sell on clause. It depends how much we think we can get of course but if it's around 10/20% then you're hoping the next club sell him for £20m odd just so we can pick up £2/4m. They'll expect the up front fee to be discounted for that. Not sure it's worth it on a gamble. If the coaches are that convinced he's going to be worth £20m+ just keep him.

They are not paying us 50million :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:
Good we would spaff it away on rubbish like we usually do. Give us five million and there's much more chance of us doing sensible deals to put together a team that can challenge. Karankas playoff team was largely funded by the sales of emnes and juke, which came to a few million.

I'd sell. I don't think he's as good as Joe Bennett was and selling him worked out well for us.

What do Everton, Wolves and West Ham know the we don't?

That they have less need of £5 million quid than we do,

Personally find him very frustrating to watch.
I think he has a good engine on him and gets up and down the line well.
But his decision making in forward positions leaves a lot to be desired. Similarly he can lose concentration when defending

This doesn't make me a 'boo boy'. I'd love to see the lad kick on.
Just get the feeling that a fresh start might suit both parties.

I think the role of wing-back is really difficult. It requires great stamina, concentration and game awareness.
This all comes with experience, granted.
But do we have such time to spare?
We have zero creativity through the middle. Our chances are coming in from crosses.
This puts a lot of pressure on a 20yr old to deliver.

Bigger clubs can easily risk £5m then put him out on loan and cross their fingers.

Young lad with a bit too much confidence who isnt exactly a grafter, its never going to go down well with most of our fans.

Really think we will regret selling him for anything less than 10 million, given a good run he will be a top player

I like how he can ride a challenge, he's stronger than he looks and at the same time quite nimble with his close control especialy in the tackle.

He seemed to lose a bit of concentration last season and it appeared even some desire. There could have been a bit of I have proved myself now. NW picked this up hence the statement about Djed has to decide where he wants to be in the future.

I know I probably echo thoughts of many in that his speed along with his movement outside the opponents penalty area is excellent and reminds me of the likes of Mason Greenwood but on the other end of his defensive game he's probably not really any use to the defence.

I honestly think 5 mill is a snip.
When DS appeared on the scene I was sure that he was going straight to the top.
Last season he faltered a bit but think back to 2 seasons ago, some on here were berating Dael Fry....

I'd say he is one of few players able to retreat back fast enough to get between ball and player. Something not many defenders can do.
