I bought it because the other half took me to Oradour sur Glane recently. A town where a terrible massacre took place and after the war De Gaule ordered it be preserved as is as a reminder of the atrocities . Really interesting, if horrible, place. Especially the church
Wasn’t keen either. Would recommend Rubicon by Tom Holland if you haven’t read it already. Very readableSPQR: A History of Ancient Rome by Mary Beard - think she's trying to be too clever in her writing style and I'm not finding it that readable which is a shame.
