Are we talking purely January? Or January transfer window? If it's just January then that narrows it down a lot. Fuchs for example, doesn't qualify as was signed in Feb I think.

As were players like Branca and Schwarzer who would also be in the conversation.

Just because Marco Branca was a hero of mine(can’t believe I forgot about him) I will allow the January/Feb window!

I ripped off the thread idea from the bbc sport website.

Brighton fans said the best piece of transfer business was loaning out Pally Fanny Connelly.

As an alternative to Ramirez (who I agree was excellent but I also think his behaviour the following season counts against him) but wasn't Riggott a January signing? He was very good for us in probably our 2 best seasons ever.
Riggott was absolutely superb, criminally under rated

Ramirez is a good shout, Bamford & Ayala were good additions, if we are talking Feb loans then I loved watching Benito Carbone he was a quality player.

Worst Jan transfers, there's loads of disappointments take your pick, Lee Dong-gook, Ricketts , Guedioura , Gestede to name a few and our last flop Connolly.

Best Ramirez.

Worst has to be Guedioura.

Cost £3.5m, played less than 2 matches worth of minutes in a year and then had his contract ripped up in the next January window.

Gestede might have been *****, but he at least contributed.

No he didn't.
Gestede cost more money, was paid lots more money and for a longer.

Gestede cost more money, was paid lots more money and for a longer.

We won 3 games in the 2017/18 season directly because of Gestede goals or assists, he was injured for over half the season.

He contributed, for the money we paid he should have contributed far, far more, but large parts of the lack of impact are down to the fact he was incredibly injury prone.

He was clearly a big waste of money, and we should never have signed him, but Guedioura was a worse transfer.

£3.5m for absolutely no contribution whatsoever is worse to me.
