What’s going wrong?

What’s everyone’s opinion on what’s going so badly wrong?
Only really lost Tav from last season and surely that wouldn’t normally cause a team to completely imploded. I get we have lost his great energy and pace but we seem to have lost every part of what makesa team tick

We weren’t good enough last season for top six and we didn’t improve over the summer. We do not have a midfield. We have players who play in the positions, but we don’t have a midfield. We don’t press the opposition. We don’t create anything, we don’t protect the back 3/5.

Give the job to who you want. Good luck kid, it’s a pigs ear

The club is in a bad place tonight. I’m just an outsider looking in, but clearly there are real problems, despite that I believe we have the talent in the first team to be in or around the top 6.

Tavanier was a good player for us but our position can’t be attributed to his sale.

Nobody appears to have bid more than Bournemouth so how could we sell him for more?

Perhaps we had Spurs pants down over Spence. He doesn’t appear to be the best value signing at the moment at £12 million.

The money we got for him is ridiculous. Bournemouth really had our pants down

I thought this at first, but you could also say that other PL teams just weren't wise enough to look at Tav's stats and consider their merit against fellow Boro players who clearly aren't up to creating much.

If others had seen the truth of his abilities, that's when you could begin to auction off a valuable player.

But then why well him ???

Did we need the money ???

What did we do with it ??

If the likes of Blackburn can keep brereton diaz an cov gyokeres we could have kept tav.

We sold our season for 10 mil and didn’t even spend it.

Most teams will now have spreadsheets on who can be replaced internally or externally, with different options.

I think someone at MFC has seriously miscalculated Tavernier's contributions and grossly overestimated the internal talent to replace him, or wildly misjudged the transfer market to think that replacements were actually available.

At every stage of his transfer, from price, timing, replacements and planning, mistakes have occurred and you can count on one hand how many midfielders we have had since Zenden who were capable of running past a man with possession of the ball. Tav, Tomlin and Robson in a bad mood.

But Wilder managed to squeeze the maximum out of that squad for 3 months or so. The deficiencies were evident before then, and towards the end of last season. We lost Tav, Crooks was known to have a hernia issue, and Howson is still the only defensive mid option, playing a full 90 every week. Wilder stated what we needed, and it was obvious to us all, but we fell well short of it in the summer. If you don't refresh and improve you can go backwards very quickly

Well i don’t think you can underestimate the huge amount we relied on Tav to make us tick - he really has been a huge miss. Add in the fact we’ve parted ways with the manager and got off to a poor start so confidence is low. The players are probably wondering what’s going to happen next and who’s going to come in. It really has been a train crash going back to when Wilder was linked to the Burnley job followed by a poor summer recruitment campaign ( yet again )

Surely you are not putting this down to the sale of Tavanier?

If so you need to think back to the last game of last season away to Preston and in fact earlier in the season after the away at Bournemouth.

Tavanier is not Messi!

What gets me is Millwall signed that Freeman for a club record transfer fee of about £1.5 million from union Berlin he scored 2 today. Boro don't go after these type of signings

widely covered in every thread about the topic that he was persuaded last season to give us one more season, if we didn’t sell him this season he would be in final year and we’d get far less, and have an unhappy player.
