Westgarth up for sale

Could it be that they expected Teesside Uni to snap their hands off at once but they didn't hence many months on it has finally gone on the market?
The University is very shrewd when it comes to property dealings and certainly won't be held to ransom. Until a few weeks back, I hadn't been in that area of the Westgarth since lockdown and the building opposite was a building site, you have to take your hat off to the University for how that area looks.

Just a case of the company dealing with its disposal following the process and getting their ducks in a row. It perhaps took just a tad longer than people might expect for one reason or another.

I mean.. I'll put 5 grand in the pot.. just need another 69
Sometimes you have to guarded in these matters. There is another large former social club in a similarly ideal situation for a venue. A community group were taking it over as a community venue but then a survey revealed that its roof, a very large roof, was completely shot. The bill would have been... yes you guessed it... through the roof. Deal off.

So it needs a new roof?

The toilets certainly needed attention the last time I went..

gonna need a fair few benefit gigs and telethons I guess.

THE JUNCTION, ISSAC WILSON & WESTGARTH WMC all for sale and a recent night out to boot.

Looks like PLAYBREW might be for sale and THE TEA HOUSE on Grange Road is too..

add into that THE ARENA and THE CROWN and that's all my old haunts gone.

What's going on in Boro?

One of the poorest places in Europe.

The social structure of Central Middlesbrough has probably changed a lot in the last 30 years.

It used to be alcohol, music, restaurants, socialising in clubs and pubs.

Now its a much more multicutural population, many of who don't drink alcohol.

The student population to me also looks more sober, more from overseas who don't consider going out and get bladdered a good night out.

The local native population is reduced in number and their incomes are less and they meet more online.

Some people in central Middlesbrough must be living in desperate poverty.

Pop into one of the big gyms in a town centre on a midweek evening… full of youngsters these days. When I was at that age I’d be spending money in the pub not on a gym membership!

Not criticising them, obviously, as it’s a much healthier, better use of their time. Just shows that times have changed.
