West Lancashire by-election today

69% did not bother to vote.
It was a safe seat that was expected to get safer. Weather is a bit rubbish and there has been very little coverage.

The vote share was the largest Labour have ever had in this seat.

This is a worse stat than those who voted for Tory, IMO.
By elections are mostly meaningless in the grand scheme of things so I can see why people don't vote in them. Nothing within parliament is going to change. If a party had a 1 seat majority it would be different but realistically it's a vote for someone to temporarily do a job that most people will never interact with until the real election comes around shortly. It's 1 (safe) seat of 650. At a General Election you don't know whether your vote/seat could make the difference but in a by election you already know the total outcome.

Labour will win the next election, but unfortunately with Starmer running things he will just keep the status quo and use financial constraints and other things as excuses, the left of the party should be acting now regarding candidates, the support in the base is and always has been willing, then Labour can do the tories trick and after about 1 year change leader bring JC in and we might begin to turn the country around with some actual meaningful policies.

🤡

I know that's how it is and will probably never change for some such is the power of the media, but 1 in 4 is still incredible to me given everything that's gone and is still going on.

They walk among us.

Yeah but if they'd have voted for Labour then Jeremy Corbyn would get in and reverse Brexit, and give mansions and iphones to all foreign criminals.

ironically they had more in common with Corbyn than they probably realised as he was not that keen on the EU for totally different reasons

Who are the 5750 who still voted for this shambles of a Government?

People like some of this lot, unfortunately. I think the problem is, a lot of these people get their news from one or two sources and probably aren’t very active online, apart from the likes of Facebook.

It’s utterly soul destroying listening to the old dear sitting on the bench, and shows exactly why the Tories can keep laughing at us.
As for the bloke in the flat cap …ffs

Yes, Starmer is dropping in his preferred candidates in northern constituencies, in Sedgefield we have Alan Strickland who knocked on my door telling me he was from Newton Aycliffe. When I said that he has been a Councillor in Harringey for the last 10 years and that he was a Starmer luvvie, he quickly left. Sad choice next election, the Tory NF party or blue Labour!😪
