Well done to the Boro management and players

"its only Barnsley".......a play off team last season.

Boro goals attempts 21 Barnsley 9.

Many posters are quick to criticise, after an unlucky defeat at Hull, but not as quick to praise after 2 deserved wins.
We were bluddy awful at Hull and Reading. "Unlucky" is being over-generous.

A clue as to what we are trying to do on the pitch would be a start. I get the injuries are catastrophic at the moment but from pretty much day one I have not been able to fathom what they were doing all week in training from what we see in the pitch. If your chuffed with Warnock good luck to you it is of course a board of opinions.
The injuries are the silver lining of a dark cloud.
We`ve done better because the boys can play football.
Not perfect by a long chalk - maybe papering over the cracks?

Ref - posters on here believing we were not unlucky @ Hull, to lose.

Hull 9 goal attempts - 2 on target
Boro 17 goal attempts - 4 on target

Source BBC website.

Flukey Hull first goal which changed the game or possibly the Hull player planned to hit the ball onto the post and onto the back of Lumley's head?

Stats prove nothing.
If you cant finish them off, you can have 100 shots on goal.
You can have 99% possession and still lose - or 33% and win 5-0.
That was Hull`s first home league win of the season incidentally - in a 10 game run without a victory!
Lumley`s own goal was in 90+3 minutes.
We had lost the game by then.
"Own goals" occur when the opposition "attack" - which we failed to do in the final ten minutes.
Their goalie was clearly "lucky"?- because he didnt let any pass by him into the net.
We are an average second- division side, whose highest place since the 14th of August is 10th.
Defeats to Hull, Reading, QPR, Blackpool and Coventry had nothing to do with "luck" - we werent good enough.
How "lucky" were we for the ref not giving Peterbro` that blatant penalty when Lumley tripped their player in the box?
Was it luck that our defence couldnt stop the Barnsley player from hitting the post with a shot after two minutes?
No.
It highlights some of the flaws in the team - which you wouldnt expect from a side with serious intentions of not spending another season in the second tier.
Lets see what the stats say after the final whistle at Cardiff. [Hopefully one goal more than them].
We will see at the end of the season. (y)

For those interested - here are Warnock`s comments from the same report after the defeat at Hull:

Neil Warnock, Middlesbrough manager told BBC Radio Tees:

"I think it sums our day up really, the weather. We had opportunities to win the game twice over, but you've got to score goals and we couldn't get that goal in.

"And then it just summed it up, for them to score a goal like that coming off the back of the head of the goalkeeper just beggar's belief really.

"Dael Fry, you put that gently to get caught in the face. it's a forearm smash nearly. The fourth official is 10 yards away, but I don't know what you say to it. He puts his arm up a long time before the ball gets there, smashes his face and then Dael gets up to try and do something and stretches his groin so a double whammy.

"And Pelz (Lee Peltier) gets booked so he misses the next game, it's a bloody nightmare tonight really."

I agree with everything Warnock said after the Hull game...I don't know what your problem is.
Some people clearly have an agenda against him. Sacking him know would be madness !!!

We made plenty of chances and but for hopeless finishing we would have had the games sown up by halftime, we won that's what counts - it's not our fault the last couple of teams Boro played were hopeless.

We shall need a decent League place if we are to tempt a couple of decent signings in January. Don't forget that the NE will have a club rattling their Geordie shekels - a shekel is 23 pence by the way - in January , and there's another geographical tempter, don't forget that history tells us that Newcastle is closer to London than Middlesbrough.

My post was to congratulate the team and the management for the last few games. I did not say we had been unlucky all season. I said we were unlucky at Hull to lose.

"Lumley`s own goal was in 90+3 minutes.
We had lost the game by then." Roofie.

The own goal was Hull's first goal. Their second goal was in the 93rd minute when we were chasing the game.

UTB.
