Weird things you were into as a child

Played this for hours - still have it.

Dad gave it to me, many happy hours spent

My obsession from age of 5 was buying records from Peters Records in Eston Square . Mam dragged me round shopping at Hinton and David fox and the fruit shop . She kept me quiet by taking me to listen to music in "peters" I became obsessed haha . First record I bought in my life from there I'm sure was "I surrender" by Rainbow. Loved it . Played it on dad's new record player all the time . Got so used to his record player that like he always reminds me to this day , I decided to try out his fave Bob Dylan Album on it when they weren't watching me .. I proceeded to scratch the **** out of it . Sure I got smacked and sent to bed haha 😄 love me auld fella

I used to read cycling catalogues as magazines (mainly the Freewheel catalogue). Instead of my mam and dad buying me comics for holidays I'd get these catalogues of exotic components I had no way in the world of affording, but I'd make lists of what I'd like to buy constantly.

My brother used to make bowls of Smash and then stir in a load of ketchup, until it was completely pink and the consistency of wallpaper paste, and sit and eat the whole lot in front of the telly. It turns my stomach to this day.
Sounds like he may have invented another teeeside classic destined for Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status!

‘Smarto’ - best get asking any visiting dignitaries if they have tried it yet..

That was such a great (little) game — I had school leagues setup for this game. I also played other games based on rolling a pencil (pencil had 6 sides) each side would a different game situation (goal, free kick etc) I also programmed some electronic games which were based on the same philosophy.

There is a book called Fatty Batter which is about one boys obsession with this game.
