Weird things you did as a kid

I used to record the Radio Cleveland commentary of Boro matches on my cassette recorder back in the 80’s (not every game)

I kept the Chelsea (a) play-off final game for ages, until it got lost

We used to crawl through the tunnel under the main road that brought the local beck out into our little valley which was just behind our houses and our summer play area…
We always wondered where it went as it felt like it went for 100s of meters without surfacing… we never dared go further than being able to see the end…
Now, looking at the same tunnel, it’s quite clear it just popped up a few 10l0 yards away over the road…
There were stories of kids drowning in there but strangely enough, we knew nearly every kid in our neighbourhood and never missed any of them…🤷🏼‍♂️

Can't remember why but with 3 or 4 other 12/13 year olds and a 16 Yr old who was in charge , we decided to build a glider.
We collected wood from everywhere but mainly waterlogged fence posts that lots of people seemed to have in their back gardens.
We gave up when my Dad pointed out that the weight of what we had collected between us would have sunk a battleship rather than glide through the air.
He wasn't much more supportive when we decided to build a car using the roof of an old air raid shelter and a lawn mower engine 😔

There was a 'subway' in a location called Whale Hill in the district of Eston, and as November 5th approached we would obtain fireworks that would launch from one end to the other (or die somewhere within) and we'd split into two groups and light then launch them towards each other. Seems really stupid and dangerous now but somehow fun back then.

They filled that subway in some time back.

Oh hell, I did this in the 90's with Century commentary.

We were clearing out my nana's house after she died a few years back and I found a cassette of the home game against Wimbledon in 1996 where we lost 2-1.

I've still got a cassette containing a recording of the Arsenal fa cup game on Shoot.
😃

I once tried to cook marshmallows on our gas fire. Just stuck them on the end of a chopstick and held against the glass front. All melted and burnt stuck the glass and eventually set on fire.
The smell of marshmallows on a fire still take me back to that moment.

Never did get the stain off the front of the fire :ROFLMAO:

Pretty sure I got a bat for that

Riding a Chopper down a slide, riding it by steering with feet, riding it side-saddle (coasting only), riding it at speed through the jitty between ours and next doors' with inches of clearance, if that.

Survived the lot but I daren't even leave go of the bars these days.
