Ali Brownlee - as is often noted on the board was a very special man - a professional, a fan, a Teesside icon. I am proud that with the help of Base Camp Boro, the likes of Robert Nichols, Boro Shirt Museum and many more, The Ali Brownlee Social Club has massively evolved into a really lovely ‘hub’ for match days and the community of Middlesbrough.

Next Monday marks the 6th anniversary of Ali’s passing and so I’m gathering some of his family and friends and all are welcome to enjoy around 90 minutes of music, memories and Gordon Rees’ memorabilia exhibition AFTER the match tomorrow - a chance to avoid the traffic / train queues and remember the great man. I’ll be there with my Haverton Hillbillies, (think Wildcats of Kilkenny with a country twang) along with some of Infant Hercules and The Ironopolettes. We will be sing our hearts out, raise a glass and ensure that the late great Ali is remembered as he should be - by bringing people together.

All welcome. Family friendly. Free entry. Bar. Food offer til 6. Event done around 7pm plus extra time if needed...

PS The Ali Brownlee Social Club runs from 12 midday as usual - with Gordon’s brilliant exhibition opening at the same time and running through the afternoon.

Base Camp Boro is tucked away at the corner of Exchange Square behind all the works they are carrying out on the Bolkow statue. Parking is available behind and it is a 2 minute walk to the station.

Wonderful. This will be a great tribute to the great man. I will make sure I can get to Base Camp after as well as before the game tomorrow.
