We Peaked At Paper

Am proud to have been interviewed for a chapter in this new book - We Peaked At Paper - which is all about the fanzine movement.
Having been immersed in fanzines for over half my life I was surprised at just how much I didn't know.
For instance the new fangled talk of zines isn't new at all, it seems people always said fanzine or zine from the start.
And talking about the start I always presumed that was the punk fanzines of the 70s. WRONG. It was sci fi fanzines over a century mainly from USA.
Then reading Mark Perry founder of the seminal punk fanzine Sniffin' Glue his definition of a fanzine could not be further from mine - a publication written by one fan. I have always felt that a football fanzine has to be brought together by lots of fans and not just one. Maybe music and football fanzines have a different ethos after all.
Anyway, I am indebted to friend Gavin Hogg for roping me in to the project, a project that was really drawn out due to COVID. My contribution was several years and many editions ago. But fortunately we are still ongoing and still true to the book's title believing in paper.
