Two goals, two assists from Archer. Ramsey, Akpom and Hackney also on target. Vintage free flowing attacking football.

Has there ever been such a dramatic on field decline in a football team in such a short space of time? Did we just fail to capitalise on a freak set of quality loan signings who we could never realistically replace?

That being said, it's hard to imagine our recruitment could have been much worse.
 
Massively over performed last year. Partially due to unexpected levels for our players, partially exceptional loans.

We've now got none of that and are under performing. The drop off makes total sense.

I think things will improve, but the levels we might aim for would have been below last year even without the poor start. Long term project, but last year has fooled us into thinking - and demanding - that we might be even better.
 
Only two of that team started on Tuesday, three of them were on the bench and another one injured. It contained 3 exceptional loan players that any team would struggle to replace and a forward who got over 30 goals and attracted attention from bigger clubs.

It was always going to be difficult to replicate last season and why I have a huge dislike for the loan system.

I wouldn’t underestimate the impact of Howson in that drop off, he was playing the best football of his career for a large part of last season.
 
I think this is the game where it all went wrong bizarrely. If Ramsey doesn't get injured and plays the rest of the season including the play offs, we'd now be complaining about being bottom of the premier league instead of the championship!😂

To go from that team to what we now have is disgraceful.
The squad is awful. 12 players brought in i.e. half of it.
