We are in a real mess

All eggs in striker baskets that ultimately failed giving us no time.
were 'all' eggs in that basket? Larson was clearly our A target, but that doesn't mean that there was no B or C. They didn't come off either, but what we didn't do is panic buy, that's important also.

Shipping Payero out on loan then selling Tav
That's not a recruitment issue. PAyero was unhappy here, and was frozen out by Wilder. He didn't want any form of project, he wanted finished article players, which was unrealistic of him. Tav, we didn't want to sell, but had no choice in the end. Yes there was a failure to get an adequate replacement, and Mowatt was a cheap short term fix, he's just been underewhelming. At least we can cut our losses maybe in January, maybe end of the season for little cost.

a free transfer panic journeyman who won't kick a ball
But will be released in January, at negligible cost.

The flip side is that we have signed 7 or 8 youngish players with potential, and 3 free transfer older players that can guide them. That's the sustainability model we need.

Who knows mate, we can only judge by the papertalk. We didn't panic buy a forward for sure. Not sure that Clarke and Mowatt didn't have a sniff of panic about them. We definitely put all our eggs in that BRentford lads basket at the end.

Fair point on Payero but you'd have thought we'd hang onto him until we'd got a replacement. We had quite a lot of time to replace Tav and didn't manage it. The whole midfield management during the window was bad though. I think what wev'e ended up with tells that story. Again with Tav you agree the deal but only sign off once you've got a replacement lined up surely?

But have had to sack a manager who wasn't buying into the club structure which he must have known?

I do remember people on here being really positive about the Mowett signing. It’s not worked but what has this season? Honestly the recruitment towards the end of the window seemed to be mainly due to a breakdown in trust in Wilder. Should probably have parted sooner.

Caolin Boyd-Munce -he was a cheap squad filler, that could easily make profit, given a run of games.
Riley McGree - has ability, but needs to improve his consistency and impact. That can be learned
Bryant Bilongo - young and talented defender
Matt Clarke - young but experienced at this level
Camil Konteh - young international, still raw, still learning
Marcus Forss - scores goals, but needs to improve his all round game, another young international
Matthew Hoppe - Another young international with potential
Darragh Lenihan - good experienced freebee
Massimo Luongo - squad filler
Liam Roberts - free keeper young enough to improve
Tommy Smith - experienced squad filler
I genuinely don't see reasons to be cheerful in that recruitment. (Can't criticise Bilongo or Konteh as they didnt cost and are nowhere near playing)
6 loans too in that period. (Connolly, Balogun, Giles, Mowatt, Muniz, Steffen)
Giles is the best loan Muniz is worthwhile; the rest?

Why so confident in a "Head of Football" role?
Why so confident Scott should be ours?
Of course it is a long term concept, but 13 months in it is a very disappointing start.

13 months is a long time in football. You'd have to say that we have progressively got worse each window. Think about next summer. As things stand we lose Steffen, Giles, Mowatt, Howson and Muniz and we have to start again on those positions. It's not good.
