We are hopeless in the final third

Absolutely clueless. We get round the back of the fullbacks easily but how many pullbacks miss everyone? Its criminal. I can’t work out whether our lack of strikers means no one has any instrict for a run or are our full backs and wingers so poor that no striker would get on the end of the awful crosses anyway?

A lot of it is down to the slow pace of the build up when Jones isn't in the team unfortunately. We play some really good football at times to engineer chances, but by the time we deliver the opposition usually have bodies back. Any ball, no matter how good, into a crowded box is going to be less productive.
Looks at last season if you want a comparison of how pace impacts teams. We had it spades last year and it showed. Everything now is so congested as we rarely stretch the game if Jones isn't playing.

Exactly. McGree made an obvious difference today and should link up well with Azaz but Jones is a huge miss when we have no big man up front to win aerial balls in a congested box. We need those quick breaks and drilled in low crosses or we end up passing around the edge of a congested box without many options.

Agree , we're methodical currently.. last year we had teams backing off like Clarke at Sunderland vs us . Without pace it's got to be so so precise.

Also , the balls cut back , or from wide .. Akpom likes a header .
As a defender it's easy to only have one thing to think about ..
The fact that Chuba / Mitrovic/ Haarand / Nunez / Ashley Barnes or Kiefer Moore like heading it . Makes defending so much harder .
As a defender you know it's very very very unlikely any delivery is targeting Mcgree/ greenwood/ Azaz / Jones / Silvera in the air .
Forss maybe?

Crooks and Coburn, even to a point Rogers ( cos he's 6ft 2 + ) made defenders think / hesitant

Compressing the pitch also makes us stretched on the counter as well and if Preston hadn't been so desperate to sit in and absorb the pressure then we could well have be caught out more often.
In the absence of pace we could try spreading the play and playing the ball quicker, but we seem incapable of putting any zip on the ball at the moment.

It could have been one of them games a bit more luck could have scored a couple more goals Preston man of the match was there keeper maybe says something

We only had 4 shots on target. There was 1 good save (from Forss). The rest of the game he was stood watching. We had 20 shots with an xG of 0.92. That's a sign of poor chances, not great goalkeeping. We had a lot of low percentage shots from distance or through crowds that got blocked. They don't go in very often although 1 did tonight. We didn't create much, certainly not anything first cut, with all that possession.
