Perhaps he was going to be cast aside in a couple of weeks anyway and the board thought what's the point in waiting, as they'll probably stay on their points total with Man City and Arsenal to play. Gambled on that points advantage over Villa and Bournemouth.

If someone was available to come in now and start working with the squad, then you may as well get something of a head start.
 
Its clear someone at Watford gets a kick out of sacking managers.
As much as Warnock seems to have steadied the ship, We have to think of the longer term future. Go for him. We could get 5 years + out of Pearson. NW is a one year stand in at best.
And the way timings work its very unlikely NP will be available in one year or 2 or maybe never.
