Warnock on the FA Cup

You should play every game to win with your best team available. Too much nonsense about players being tired and needing a rest and small squads etc.

Most managers now devaluing the cup and now the fans are too. I'm not sure what people want either as a lot of people in here critise the premium league as it's all about money and say prefer the championship, so if you don't want promotion, surely you must want us to try and win a cup or what's the point?

It's not nonsense though that fatigued players are more likely to pick up injuries.

Unique circumstances this season. Hence the 5 subs rule.

What are they fatigued with? 20 games of 90 minutes over 5 months, I really feel for them.

I doubt the players are complaining to be fair, I'm sure they'd rather play than train. But it's basic sports science, you're more likely to pick up injuries the more fatigued you are. Nothing to do with feeling sorry for them or players being "lazy" or whatever.

Warnock and the sports scientists at the club need to manage the workload of the players to reduce the risk of injuries. Particularly given the small squad we have.

Of course I suppose we could just run them into the ground, lose half a dozen players to injury and give up any chance of the play offs But at least no-one could say they had it easy eh? It's certainly a viewpoint.

Thankfully Warnock seems to disagree. Think I'll trust his judgement.

Every year people say play a weakened side as we are fighting against relegation, to get into the play offs, to get automatic.

If we had used that excuse every year we would be a no mark team like Charlton. The cups have provided us with all of our important moments, the league has given us drudgery.

Rest players in the league play the first team in the cup.

It can be argued the two Tottenham games last January proved to be an energy-sapping distraction that coincided with us losing the good form we had built up throughout December. Woodgate’s team never managed to recover from it.

As Gibson said around the time Warnock was appointed, the most important thing for Boro is to be competitive in the league we are in and Warnock has certainly got us competitive again.
