Exactly. Look at some of the brilliant Adam Curtis stuff and it’s clear Britain has always had an undercurrent of racism. For balance, there are some fantastic people on this island but plenty of total insular racist pigs too. That lad on Twitter in the latter.

I'd also add in the reverse direction, schemes like ULEZ and other things created in the big cities, even ideas in other regions are templates for things that could end up being rolled out locally, some ideas are worthy of nicking, others not so much, but why shouldn't people pay attention to what happens in other regions ... Ideas (good and bad) get adopted ... Similarly why shouldn't people dawn saufff care about Tory corruption and Freeports in the NE, we aren't the only ones with a Freeport.

Of course they should, as for ULEZ it’s important to reduce traffic and pollution in major cities, there isn’t a need in somewhere like Teesside, it just isn’t as heavily and densely populated.

we don’t have a multi-billion pound public transport infrastructure like London as an alternative. So ULEZ is a moot point. I’d guess the air quality in central Boro isn’t as bad as central London though
 
I never want to be depressed or disgusted by Boro fans, but that is vile.

More than a whiff of Trump-esque thinking there: if you don't get what you want via the ballot box, take it by force.
