Vinyl Outsells CDs For the First Time Since 1987

I’ve had a good think about where my passion for vinyl comes from: there is definitely the harking back to childhood thing; there is nothing that gets me as excited as going into a record shop, other than possibly a book shop; I love the searching for hidden gems too whilst crate digging; the sound of the vinyl is something I can’t quite describe but it again takes me back to being a youngster; I like the collecting angle too and reading about collecting; folk who come to the house always love messing on with the jukebox and saying, ‘Have you got so and so that we can put on?”

I’ve also made really lovely connections with folk on here re vinyl: alanmoodysdog, Norman Conquest, goalscrouger, little jimmy and concrete dreams.

And spending my pension on records seems to wind up my partner no end, which is always good sport.
loads of reading on the difference between vinyl and cds and most just say the graphs and things say there is no difference except something thats not measurable ... the warmth . The white noise when you put a record on before the music starts creates a bed for the music to lay on and (IMO) thats what gives it the warmth . good to here from you guisborough_rob, miss the shop as well

Funnily enough this has been the first year my Cd purchases have outnumbered my vinyl ones. Getting a cheap Cambridge audio CD deck off eBay helped mind. Able to fill in lots of holes in my collection for bargain prices.

New releases I'll generally buy on vinyl but anything tricky to get hold of will go on CD. Just picked up 10 for 30 notes in Stockton this morning 👍

I've lost the vinyl of Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds that I had and it annoys me no end. The record had a massive impact on my childhood with the amazing artwork in the booklet that came with it, which just reinforced the whole vibe of the music and story. When my dad got it in 1978 or so I listened to it endlessly, even taping it on my little cassette player. When I sit and watch a vinyl LP spinning and marvel at the witchcraft of the sound coming from a minute groove through a diamond pickup, it lightens up something in my soul. Sorry for the pretentious waffle...not sorry.
