Viktor Gyökeres - Will we be back in for him

We need to improve all around the pitch to be honest. We need:

1. a dominant CB, I'd be prepared to sell Fry or Lenihan to fund this. Any chance that Carrick could call in a favour with his old mucka Phil Jones? Contract runs out this season, nowhere near the man utd first team but could absolutely do a job at championship level. Providing the experience and leadership that the team lacks. Might be able to get him in for 6 months on 20k/week while he runs his united contract down?

2. A specialist LB, we have Dijksteel and Smith who can do that role on the right, but only Bola who seems out of favour on the left.

3. CDM - Need a specialist destroyer, back in for Frank Onyeka? We need to stop playing Howson in this role, he hasn't got the mobility to play it, and it was never really his role when in his prime, he was an 8. A specialist CDM will give confidence to other CMs to be more forward thinking, knowing there is a strong shield behind them.

4. CM creativity - this for me is the tough one, we need someone to get on the ball with their head up and create, a ball carrier to commit defenders, a goal and assist threat from the middle of the park.

5. Winger - We need someone who can play left or right to put pressure on Jones to perform, they need to have some form of goal threat and pace, to give us a counter attack threat.

I would sign all these BEFORE going for yet another striker to be starved of service, or a striker to be frustrated as we let 2 goals in before 20mins on the clock.
Fry & McNair we’re a decent pairing, Bola is decent at left back, Howson is still one of our best players, although the same could have been said about Leadbitter.. who we held on to for too long. Onyenka might be off the cards now. Giles should be pushed further up the pitch imo.. no ideal but our lack of numbers in midfield means we need to change things round a bit. Pharrell Willis training with the first team.. might be interesting.

As far as giving managers chances, time etc.. I think this window will be make or break for Keiron Scott.

Build from the back, through everything but the kitchen sink in it for January.. because we won’t get another chance. Happy to loan in creativity next summer.

I say show some intent and bid 15 million for him club record fee. Its about time the boro showed some ambition Gibson has been cost cutting for too long is the reason we are in this postion. We need to attack the janaury transfer window so we have the squad for the promotion push next season. As we can't get to next summer and sign another 13 players again and expect them to start the season well
That's a blueprint for either failing FFP or going out of business.

£15m for Gykores? We need at least two or three quality midfielders before we get there.

Let's see where everyone lies at the end of the season where it matters most. I'm happy for akpom to be scoring goals but I can't see him having the same or as many as gyokores at end of season, but who knows.

Gyokores goals have won Coventry 9 Points so far and akpom's have won us 4 points so he's had a bigger impact to their league position. Scoring goals is great but you need then scoring when it counts.

Akpoms allegedly on quite a large wage comparatively as well so not sure how that is going to impact contract talks as he won't want to take a big paycut and not sure we'd want a lengthy contract with big wages when he might stop firing.

Gyokeres has played 5 games more than Akpom, and that's with Coventry having 2 games in hand on us.

We spent £11.5m on players (maybe a bit more) then we bid £11m on a new striker..
There is the problem we spent 11.5 million on forss hoppe and Clarke who can't get in the worst boro side in years. We shoulda just signed one mint player for 11.5 million. We sign too much rubbish quantity thinking we getting bargains instead of investing in actual quality star players.

Gykores over McGree, Forss, Hoppe & Clarke?

We’d still have a problem with our midfield.. it would just be worse.

Bet he ends up at sheff itd or another team pushing for promotion. Hes not especially prolific this season
He’s no Chuba Akpom!

Maybe he can replace the £18m Oli McBurnie who is out of contract for Sheffield in the summer..

I'd take Gyokores over 4 bench players. How can we have the biggest budget outside of the parashoot teams highest priced tickets in the league have among the highest attendances yet the management consistently fail to put a winning team onto the pitch. We should be the man City of the division with the resources we have at our disposal

Dunno whether we can afford to have him back!
Oh give over.
The Club spent £7.75m this summer.
That will be amortised over contracts and cost £2m at most this season.
The profit from Spence and Tav is £22.5m booked this season.
There is £20.5m P&L and FFP benefit this season.
The loans of course matter, but cycle what was in last year’s loans.
The wage bill will not be higher.

amortised doesn't just mean we can afford to spend all the money we bring in!

The club banked 25 million this summer where is the Spence and Tavernier money gone as it sure isn't on the pitch
They didn't because it will be paid in instalments, but nevertheless I'm sure the club will work as close to the FFP margins as possible. I don't think spending lots of money equates to showing "ambition", we can still be ambitious, but also fiscally responsible, ensuring the club is sustainable. We did that last under Monk and it was a disaster that hamstrung us for a number of seasons.

I also think that the situation with Wilder and his wandering eye has made the club far more reticent to sign players for decent money.

Why bother. Akpom currently has better goals per minute. We don't know if he is just on an emnes style hot streak before reverting to type, but there's not much more data on gyokeres, and we should never ever be spending 8 figures on anyone in the 2nd Division, let alone someone whose done one season.

If we aren't playing wingbacks we need wide players. We only have Jones watmore and at a push Giles. I also want to see hoppe and Forss given some actual games time, not just minutes off the bench.
