VAR controversy GON mad

The keeper pushed Silva away, should there be a penna check?

Silva didn't interfere (😳) with the keeper right from when the corner was kicked, eventually ducked down to give the keeper a clear sight. Bad defending, good header.

Perfectly good goal imo.

Silva makes contact with the keeper first blocking him off

I didn't mean he was offside then but surely he's interfering in the keepers thought process being offside from the header in such a short time after backing into him.
He doesn't have to be in his eyeline at that time - just gained an advantage/effected the keeper from the shot.

I think you can argue both ways.

The call on the pitch was offside supposedly - i would have stuck with that.

Silva backed into the keeper with the ball not in a playable position. It's a foul. No question.

"Impeding the progress of an opponent means moving into the opponent’s path to obstruct, block, slow down or force a change of direction when the ball is not within playing distance of either player."
Take that law literally and you are never scoring from a corner as it wil either be a free kick to the defensive team or a penalty every time

Blocking runners intentionally is increasingly a thing.

Similar to screening/Blocking in US Sports.

It is illegal in football.

Either we decide it should be legal... or we blow up at each corner it happens

If you watch the play build, Silva backs into the keeper before the corner was taken. Just before the ball was kicked, the keeper pushed Silva who was then out of the keepers line of sight and then ducked down - giving the keeper a clear view of Stones' header flying past him.

Wouldn't have mattered if Silva was stood 50 yards away, keeper wasn't saving that.

Bad defending, bad concentration.

How? Plenty of corners are scored without anyone being impeded.

Silva wasn't in a tussle. He deliberately backed into the keeper whilst under no other pressure.

Hahahahahahaaa

Sorry. didn't mean to laugh at poor old Gary.

Can't believe the goal was given. Keeper clearly obstructed whilst Silva is in an offside position.
He was nowhere near the keepers eye line. Correct decision it’s never offside

If Silva didn't think his actions would affect the keeper, why would he risk having a goal ruled out?

I think my original post is a slight cause of confusion. I was too busy trying to get the pun in the title correct - I've edited it to make everyone else in the thread look like idiots :ROFLMAO:

The goal should have been disallowed for the foul on the keeper.

Football is riddled with sh*thousery, Silva has got away with it 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Next week the ref will blow as soon as the corner is taken for a foul on the keeper

I don’t have a problem with Silva position after Stones heads the ball but Silva does back into the keeper why the ball is no were near them which could be obstruction.

The keeper was definitely impeded.

Silva backed into him and then span away. His actions affected the keeper and prevented him having more time to set himself.

For me it's a foul on the keeper in the build-up to the goal. The offside positioning is less relevant but if he wasn't in that position then he wouldn't have been close enough to impede in the first place. He is offside when the ball comes back in and has used that position to impede the keeper.

Goal should have been disallowed, in my opinion, but it was hilarious that it wasn't - especially after sending the ref to the screen.
From someone who's probably never played football in his life.

The corner hadn't been taken when he backed in......so, should the ref have blown and had a word with Silva, told him to pack it in? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Trolls be trolling...
Standard reply when confronted with facts.

5' 2" Silva's brief contact with the 6' 6" goalkeeper was of no lasting consequence therefore not a foul.
Next time look up the laws of the game before you post rubbish there's a good lad (y)
