Values: How do you fare?

I know this is only a small sample of 12, but how the hell have we got tories in power?

Everyone swings economically on the social side.
Everyone swings on the liberal side in the civil sector
Everyone swings societally to the progressive side

The only divide is, guess what diplomatic, where 11 of us swing to internationalism and peace, and one swings the other way to nationalism and confrontation.

Economic:
Mean - 72.3 socialist
Spread goes from @HarryVegas (86.5% social) to @Artie Fufkin (55.1%), with a spread of 31.4%

Diplomatic:
Mean - 69.1% international
Spread goes from @El_Owen (88.3% international) to @Randy (60% nationalist), with a spread of 48.3%

Civil:
Mean - 63.4% Liberal/libertarian
Spread goes from @FatCat (55.1% Liberal) to @El_Owen (78.9% Liberal/libertarian), with a spread of 23.1%

Societal:
Mean - 60.9% Progressive
Spread goes from @fella (82% Progressive) to @Jostler (56.8% progressive), with a spread of 25.2%

Small data set, and a limited spread of society but we're all pretty much broadly aligned in our thoughts on being progressive and free, and economically having some social systems in place. The big gap is are we best placed to do that alone or as part of an international group. Brexit innit.

...and yes I'm bored, I hate international breaks.

This happens at every general election. When the manifestos are presented blind, everyone wants the Labour manifesto then 40% vote Tory

yes, I'd noticed that in previous elections, if people voted on manifesto and previous evidence, rather than rhetoric, a broken media and personality, it would be a bun fight between Labour and Lib-Dems with Tories a poor third or even fourth behind greens

I’d say this board isn’t representative of the whole nation though.

It tends (with a few exceptions), to pretty left leaning.

Also I’d say some of the questions could be read in different ways than intended. For instance, with the progressive ones, yes I am quite traditional in that I see huge value in things like a traditional rural Christmas for instance and traditional country values. But my judgement could also have been partially impaired that at the moment as I have a whole HS2 vs Progress thing going on when answering the questions that might have dragged me more to the traditional side than what my opinion would otherwise have been

The board is accused of being left leaning, but I think it's only slightly, and less so recently. But I accept that the data would be skewed, but is also indicative that those core national characteristics of progressive, liberal and light socialist are still there beneath all the rhetoric and battle lines of the last 5 years.

Apologies if this is serious, but I think its relevant to Societal "Values" - preached at us by Politicians and the media.

The "values" of the Home Secretary and her riotous police:

1616874679859.png
A woman trying to get out of the way is attacked by two policewomen with riot shields and then belted with batons.
"Values"?
Not in my name.

Police were"chopping" at people protesting, with riot shields.

A journalist was attacked, despite standing to one side, not involved in the protest:

"Police assaulted me at the Bristol protest even though I told them I was from the press.
I was respectfully observing what was happening and posed no threat to any of the officers.
I have muted the latter part of the video to spare you all the pain of hearing my shrill voice."
[Matthew Dresch. @ Daily Mirror]

My fear is that this is a taster for more of the same.

attacking people sat on the floor with the edge of a shield is not legal, I hope they get sued

Yep The last 5 years have been pretty strange and have skewed voters in all sorts of directions.

There’s probably also a few of the further right wing lot on here who wouldn’t want their views exposing, so that also maybe tilts things

For the record I feel I’m pretty centrist.
