US death and census records

I'm trying to find records of my great-great-grandad who ran away to the States in the late 1880's.
I've found a letter in my late mother's belongings from the 1960s that say he died in White Plains, New York.
Will the city of White Plains have theses records online or will the city have a records office to contact?
Anybody know?

There are several genealogy websites you can use but most you need to subscribe to.

This https://www.familysearch.org/en/ is the IGI (Mormon) Index which I think is free - have a look for him on there. Failing that (or indeed as well as), if you want to PM me his details I'll have a look for you on the subscription one I have

Cheers Malaguena, I'll try the Mormon site.
I'd like to PM you but I don't know how to.
Click on the envelope top right. Select Start a new conversation. Start typing the username of who you want to send it to and select it when it comes up. Type your message and send just like when you post on the message board.

You could always find the details of the Mayor of the city where your ancestor died and wrote to them directly.

Americans like this sort of thing, being linked to the UK. especially if they are a small town and you take an interest in their history too. You may even turn up some distance relatives.
