Ukraine - invasion underway

China is already well in place in US institutions so I doubt they'd risk outright invasion that would force a response. I understand most US defence companies get their chips from Taiwan. So Taiwan is not an insignificant player.

I had some Chinese chips last night, I'm surprised the Yanks put up with that.
 
People can guess this and guess that about what's happening and why, and speculate about what might happen next.

However, the most serious thing is no one actually knows, these things can turn one way or another quite quickly, there is so much at stake for so many ordinary people around the world and some people make flippant comments about a very serious and dangerous situation.

I suspect most on here never lived through the horrors of WW2, but any WW3 will be an absolute disaster for large parts of the planet.

Humankind never seems to learn and we are as guilty as everyone else.

Let's hope for peace and prosperity for the many and not the few.
 
18 Russian II-76 planes are apparently on their way to the Anatov airport

Also there it’s rumoured the Anatov 225 has been severely damaged in the helicopter attack.
 
Ostracise them.
Shut them down.
Isolate them Internationally.
Refuse all trade with them.
Shut down all of their interests in the US & EU Countries.
Bar them from all International Sport.
Hack and attack their IT sytems from every corner of the US and the EU.

But it has to be unanimous and rigid for as long as it takes.

On the face of it that seems like a sensible approach, however the more you punish them like this, there comes a time when they have nothing left to loose, and are pushed into absolutely anything. They have a vast nuclear arsenal (and who knows what else) in the hands of a few. I do not know the answer to this complex situation and unfortunately I don't have much confidence in our leaders and other leaders to do the right things to bring about a peaceful solution.
 
He won't go beyond the Ukraine borders.... he simply wouldn't risk a conventional war with the west knowing he'd lose.
And if they are isolated as I suggest his people will turn on him anyway.
 
If the big nobs got round a table, let’s say Russia, Ukraine and mediators and Ukraine agreed to allow the Donbas to be subsumed into Russia provided all those who saw themselves as Ukrainian were allowed to move to western Ukraine before the border was re-drawn and agreement was reached that Ukraine would not join NATO and in exchange Russia would not be aggressive against it further…..would that end it? I am not clued up on the history of the region but if the Donbas sees itself as Russian-ish rather than Ukrainian (which it presumably does as there’s been an ‘independence’ war there for several years, then why not let them join Russia and end the bloodshed now.

It's pretty much a daily occurrence and has been for at least 18 months. The Chinese are basically trying to get Taiwan to fire first, gives the Chinese an excuse to fire back.

Some prominent journos on Twitter are trying to verify the videos. I'd say a good starting point might be only to share things from verified accounts?

Anyway, no biggie to me, just thought people wouldn't be wanting to share fake vids. As I previously posted, I'm not criticising anyone in particular and for me keep posting them (y)

Getting verified on twitter is a random process anyways molteni. The blue tick doesn't automatically mean they are trustworthy. There are plenty of unverified Twitter accounts with their fingers on the pulse.
