An analysis by British academics, published by the UK Government's official scientific advisory group, says that they believe it is "almost certain" that a SARS-Cov-2 variant will emerge that "leads to current vaccine failure." SARS-CoV-2 is the virus that causes Covid-19.


The analysis has not been peer-reviewed, the early research is theoretical, and does not provide any proof that such a variant is in circulation now. Documents like it are released "as pre-print publications that have provided the government with rapid evidence during an emergency."
 
We'll adapt, we can't stay locked down forever based on theoreticals.

We probably have reopened too quickly, but I'd bet money that any problematic variant develops elsewhere.
 
This is the start of the end of mankind, similar to how the dinosaurs were wiped out. Covid and the variants are smarter than humans.
 
I think the key word in that part of the report is ‘eventually’.

Hopefully we’ve got updated vaccines and pharmaceuticals by that point.
 
I guess a variant which evades the vaccine has an advantage over the previous ones, so is likely to prosper. Natural selection and all that.

On the plus side, it might be sufficiently different to be less dangerous or less transmissible.

How is this even surprising? Obviously *eventually* a new variant will bypass current vaccines...it's not just going to pop out out of magic though. This is just more sensationalism by the media.
 
Oh well.... Its going to be around for years and if not forever.

I'm not being flipent. Just we have to get on with it as it's probably already 3-4 'varients' deep. It will keep changing and mutating with vaccines and if it's come from other countries.

It's pretty easy for an 'expert' to predict more deaths. What's the answer? They very hardly ever say.
 
There will likely be other virus outbreaks from the wild - they may be related to SARS, maybe not. Nature has plenty of resources to use in helping to kill off the species that is trying its best to kill her and thus themselves.

It seems more and more countries are coming around to the fact that a zero covid approach isn't a viable strategy. Mother nature always finds a way.
Although Australia are still adamant that a zero covid approach is the way to go.
