When 1984 just had the wrong year!

we are fast becoming an authoritarian state like China!

If you think it won’t happen, then why are they testing it?

I have read it and if you can’t see the comparisons to what’s happening then more fool you.

wonder why politicians use throw away line that are untrue? Because people just hear what they are told!

Have just finished watching Last Enemy on one of the subscription platforms (Acorn, its an Aussie one), that one certainly makes you think about mission creep in surveillance.

I skimmed it. It just seemed to be complaining about information being available to the police that is already available to them.
There are no comparisons to today's society and 1984. Other than all the freedoms we have willingly surrendered through coronavirus. Capitalism won a resounding victory over totalitarianism. 1984 is a book about restriction of freedom. Freedoms we have so resoundingly abused that we pretty much killed the planet. It's just a tired cliché people return to over and over again. Look to hideo Kohima or Paul verhoven rather than Orwell. Like I said buck Rogers is closer to our reality.
 
The technologies are being put in place currently and have been for 20 odd years will continue to evolve and within 20 years it will be impossible to have any form of evolutionary or revolutionary change unless it's allowed and massaged by the very rich and powerful. Your children's childrens success will be at the whim of people you will never see or speak to. Social mobility will be done.

There will essentially be such differences between the human experience of the very rich and the rest that we might as well be different species.

Agreed @Sheriff_John_Bunnell_ret the response to covid has only brought forward the final destination by around 10-15 years.
