two very good films out now

Both films have excellent acting. But despite Andrew Scott's exceptional performance in the latter film, didn't enjoy it. The first film however I believe is a must see.

All of Us Strangers blew me away. One of the best films I'd seen in ages. Zone of Interest is a very different kind of film. Still very good though.

I don't think I really 'enjoyed' either of them, but they touched something deep inside and made me think about them after I left the screen. That's a good film.
All of us Strangers reminded me of the excellent Rat catcher (Lynne Ramsay). I had no expectations of either but became completely absorbed. Possibly Haigh is influenced by Ramsay.
Ken Loach's the Old Oak is also excellent.
I really hope there are more ken Loach's out there to carry on the genre.

An excellent film I saw recently is called "The Promised Land" - its actually set in Denmark in the 1760s and is a Danish film, so it could be hard to find. In Danish it is called "The b****d"

A middle aged guy returns from 25 military service in Germany. He was a Captain but is living in a doss house. He decides to get his live together and create a working farm/small estate on the Jutland Heath which then was scrubby heathland and judged unfarmable. The Heath technically belongs to the Danish King, but for many years has been used by Danish nobility for hunting - a bit like North Yorks Moors. The nobility judge it theres. The king grants to captain to right to give it a go at farming on the Heath. The film then develops into a Danish Western in the theme of "Shane".

Zone of interest was certainly a good concept looking at horrible issues, but I wasn't impressed with the end result, as I thought it just seemed to jump around too much from character to character.

Saw Zone of Interest tonight.

Stark, bleak and utterly depressing but you couldn't take your eyes off it. Haunting musical score too. The horrors are always hidden over the wall or bushes. Didn't enjoy it obviously but glad I saw it.

Thanks. Will check them out.

I go to cinema a lot. Started to keep a spreadsheet of films I’ve seen and my score (sad I know). Anyway my fav film so far for 2024 is still One Life but what do I know. I gave Poor Things 2 out of 10 and it won an Oscar 😂

Zone of interest is more of a listening experience than a visual one...........it's the disturbing perpetual noise in the background, human processing, screams etc, that what stood out for me

Agreed. A very haunting audio experience and the minimalist almost threatening soundtrack enhanced it. The juxtaposition of the almost dreamlike sequences of the daughter picking flowers and foraging was a disturbing watch
