Two Sundays in one week

I took my girls out on their bikes earlier to collect my bike from the pub I left it in last night after I'd had a few too many rums and cokes.
The village was empty, not a soul or a car in sight. It was stranger than lockdown.

Apparently at ASDA they had to stop people entering the store by 5.30pm as the stores were at capacity.

I dont know whats worse ASDA opening or people who couldnt wait until tuesday to do their weekly shop or get some essentials

I was going to go to Keswick for a walk up Catbells but decided to go to Whitby instead. It was lovely weather, like a warm spring day and there was a lot of people there too.

Felt like a normal bank holiday, had a few hours at Hamsterley and it was packed. Every pub/cafe that was open looked busy too. Don’t see the sense of spending a free bank holiday at home in front of the tv

I washed my car in the morning. My missues did comment about if it was 'appropriate'. To be fair I only saw 2 dog walkers in the 30 mins I was doing it.

It did seem very quiet. Almost like an Xmas morning (although arguably the complete opposite feelings).

I have to agree about the likes of Asda and the Co Op near me opening at 1700. Did they really need to? Also how can people not go one day without needing to pop to a shop.

I work for a company who refits big stores. So very suprised that B&Q closed giving us the day off.

People shouldn't have essentials because the queen died?

More like a Monday to me. Just did a normal day's work, albeit without getting drowned by incoming emails.

As for the shops, I was up at the game all weekend and I'm away with work Tuesday and Wednesday, leaving Monday as my only day to get some shopping in. I'm sorry if my milk purchase offended anyone.

I spent most of the day at the emergency vet with our new pup ☹️ so I missed pretty much the whole thing.

I have been ambivalent about everything over the past week but wanted to watch yesterday - like it or not, that was history being written.

For those of us of a certain vintage, ie old, it was just like a Sunday from our youth. except church came to us, via TV, instead of us having to go to church.

a typical B/H were i live - everywhere was open that wanted to be open - all the pubs and bars were more than busy that i passed and people were laughing and joking as usual - the coffee shops were trading and busy, traffic was busy throughout the day with the usual jams at the usual places, teenagers were skateboarding, cyclists cycling, and dogs were out being walked.

loads of shoppers buying goods as well as foodstuffs for home.

i went in a pub last night around 7ish and there was a gig on at 8 upstairs

theres a funeral parlour on the corner of the next street to me, they had a newspaper poster of the queen in their window, from the metro i think - there was the same woman on the desk using the computer, i dont suppose people didnt die yesterday, so they were open as usual

the students round the corner had a party till gone midnight - they played some nice tunes.

I spent the day doing DIY.

Kitchen stripped out
2 x rooms painted.
Curtain rail up and a couple of TV brackets renewed.

Then cooked a roast dinner and sat down as a family to eat which is rare these days. Settled on the sofa with a glass of wine by 7pm which is also a lot earlier than I would usually get settled down after work, dinner and clean up.

And yes I did go to Tesco Express yesterday, at exactly 5.05pm I walked in and bought two bottles of wine and some gravy mix. We'd ran out of my usual roast dinner gravy mix so I was glad I could get it. We don't keep a stock of alcohol in the house as we find we drink more if we do. We buy alcohol if we fancy it and only buy what we intend to drink that night. I was pleased the shop was open but could have done without.

All stuff I struggle to get time to do on a normal weekend around family time. It was nice having an extra day off. I could get used to a 4 day working week.

There also seemed to be a few people looking like they were heading into Normanby for a few drinks. And why not? If that's what they enjoy doing on a Bank Holiday. It gives the local landlords a chance to make a bit more than they would on a regular Monday. Not as busy as a normal Bank Holiday (or didn't seem to be at 5pm). Not sure how many of the pubs in Normanby were open.
