I suspect as part of Musks drive for "free speech", he has had twitter remove all automation related to complaints. In the past I would suspect that tweets with a complaint against them would go through a ML content rating filter. That in itself wouldn't ban a tweet but give it a rating. Enough complaints about a tweet and a high enough ML content score would result in it being removed automatically. Maybe people would be involved if it was borderline or a bluetick involved.

I suspect Musk has effectively got all content filter stuff turned off and very few humans monitoring complaints. Thus more and more moronic abusive, racist, xenophobic, transphobic, homophobic and hate will be seen, until it becomes a cesspit of hate that most normal people will not want anything to do with it

other than the cancel culture bit I'm with you. cancel culture is just people making sure there are consequences for the other things you listed

Twitter is huge in the football world. So many people use it right across society, it is an appalling backward step if people no longer feel safe on that environment.
We must stand behind Chuba alongside the football club and feel rightfully appalled that this racism and the racist is now acceptable to Elon Musk's twitter.
I actually walked past Chuba today. I didn't know anything about this at the time. I hope he knows we are all on his side and behind him all the way.
 
Used to like twitter, found it refreshing as an alternative look at the news etc....., but gradually use it less and less since Trump, Brexit and Pandemic. Might have to join the young uns on Insta or Tik Tok :ROFLMAO:
 
I’ve recently got rid of my account. It’s become increasingly more toxic.

Recently, I was also finding my timeline getting absolutely hammered with online tipster pages that I didn’t follow - I got sick of muting them.

Most of my Twitter content revolved around Boro, a bit of politics and Racing. I interacted with a few people on there who were also into racing, and the algorithms have obviously picked up on it and flooded my feed based on those interactions.

It makes you realise how easily manipulated the content you see can be. I just think it’s a massive no no with gambling as so many vulnerable people can be sucked in / affected.

Now it’s likely to become an even bigger Cesspit. Won’t be long before Elon reinstates Trump, I’m sure.

So anyway, I’m now social media free and have little to waste my time on, hence converting from a lurker to a poster on here! 😆
 
If there are more instances like this, and it is sadly very likely, I wonder if football might call for a week or a day of action again in asking people not to use twitter for football.
 
There have been loads of boycotts of Twitter. None have made a jot of difference. The only way any boycott would work if there were a set of conditions and that the boycott was not set for a period of time but until those conditions were met.

Even then if you were able to weed out all the racism you've still got alogorhythms promoting conflict. Youre still providing a platform for all the cranks and loons. You'll still have newspapers lazily reporting those views as news.
 
Just deleted my Twitter account. I barely used it anyway, but this is the final straw I've needed. It's always been more of a cesspit than the other social media I use. It looks like it's going to get worse quickly thanks to the takeover.

I'm sure Musky won't be gutted I'm gone, but at least I've added to the statistics of the mass exodus.
