TV licence court letter.

I do maintain, it should be means tested and be free to those who can't afford it. It's a public service.

There are lots of public services I don't use myself currently. I'm happy to pay for libraries - I don't use one. They should still exist and I'm happy to pay my share.

That's missing the point.

No license fee = no BBC.
No BBC = no news reporting from any mainstream independent souce. Your children's news will be filtered and served up, by the highest bidder. Amazon will interpret the world's events for them.
So what your saying is the BBC is the only trusted news source?

It's nowhere near as independent as it was, or should be. There's isn't another mainstream source that's not owned by corporate suits.

The thing is even if you don’t consider it trustworthy or independent; there are at least regulations and a Royal Charter in place to TRY and make it as impartial as is pragmatically possible. Unless you are totally impartial yourself, you’ll struggle to judge impartiality, we all will.

But with Amazon, no such regulations or agreements in place. You’ll get what they want you to hear.

No.
You miss the point.
The assumption is that every household has a TV and, therefore, properties not registered with a license are "investigated" - ie, the default assumption being that people are breaking the law.

Nota bene:
"Road Tax" was abolished in 1937.
You are wilfully missing the point.

If you don't want to pay the TV Licence, don't watch live TV. Ignore the letters, don't let them into your house. Never worry about it again.

Try doing that with any other non-payment of tax that gets investigated & see how far it gets you.

Not just tax, but any other debt you owe. It’s the same thing.

A lot of people who want this utopia of just having loads of different subscription services competing with each other and no obligation to pay the TV licence don’t understand that they already have that, as long as they don’t watch it broadcast live.
