Turkish quake

Unfortunately, my guess on the number of fatalities is proving to be correct. Having seen some of the ruptures along the fault (one is 30 metres deep and 200m wide stretching for about a mile) people in its way had no chance. Not even quake resistant buildings cope with that.

I was with a Turkish family I know yesterday. They have lost many friends. They are sending trucks out next week from where they live in West Yorkshire. I'm packing a load of warm clothing, sleeping bags, tents and outdoor gear that are surplus to requirements. If you are an outdoors person/walker and have warm gear... blankets, boots, thick socks even... anything, please see if you have a local Turkish/Syrian community or charity that is sending stuff out there and contribute if you can. The dead can't be helped... the priority is to help the survivors now. The scale of devastation is Biblical.
