The press conference was only just the surface of what is going on in American politics towards China.
It seems to be the only issue that Republicans and Democrats are agreeing on. In just the space of a few weeks they've passed legislation on preventing Chinese firms from getting away with avoiding auditing on the stock exchange, condemned China for their suppression on Uigyhur muslims and stopped China from getting hold of technology and intellectual property theft that has cost the US hundreds of billions of dollars.
And there is more to come, there are bills in Congress now to stop censorship aimed at Chinese markets, they're going after professors and students who have links to China and stealing research. What China is doing to Hong Kong now is terrifying, it is a matter of time until those protestors are extradited to the mainland and heaven knows what will happen to them. They are bullying countries in the region and cheesing off India big time by claiming parts of their border.
There was a poll conducted a few weeks ago that found over 2/3 of Americans have a negative view towards China, I would imagine once the virus digresses, HK is finally taken over and ups operations to take Taiwan, that will continue to plummet. Anyway back to Trump, he is repeating what the consensus is on Capitol Hill, Ted Cruz (R), Marco Rubio (R), Elizabeth Warren (D), Chris Hollen (D).
People need to understand China views the west as an enemy, not an ally. That has been the case ever since the CCP took control of China. They steal, commit fraud, bully, suppress, intimidate, hack, cheat, I could really go on and give you tens of examples for each.
