Trump Gets The Hump As FBI Enter Mar-a-Lago

From Garrett M Graff on Twitter

'THREAD: “What’s the difference between this and Watergate?” Donald Trump raged in a statement Monday night after FBI agents. Well, as a Watergate and FBI historian, four things stand out to me:

1) The idea the FBI launched a raid on a former president would have been approved and monitored at the highest level of the Justice Department; hard to even imagine how high the bar of probable cause must've been for the Bureau to initiate such a politically sensitive search....

2) A search warrant means an independent federal judge ALSO signed off on the probable cause and, independently, believes evidence there was likely a crime committed AND that more evidence would be found at Mar-a-Lago. That's huge too.

3) The fact the search apparently didn't leak until basically when word came from Donald Trump himself shows the FBI and the Justice Department conducted this search by the book and a high degree of integrity. No leaks? Impressive. Surely only a small team knew inside DOJ....

4) Taken together, this is one of the most significant, sensitive, and politically explosive actions the US Justice Department and FBI has ever taken—one of a tiny handful of times it's ever investigated a president. Bottom line: The FBI & DOJ must've known they had the goods.'

If you read both of his books Bob Woodward the man ( along with Bernstein) who broke the water gate story he makes no apologies in his comparison of trump and Nixon and the water gate issue.

Both good reads by the way rage and fury.

Woodward played a blinder. Trump's ego wanted Woodward, yet he couldn't envisage the Watergate investigative journo would possibly report truthfully. :D

Beautiful home

He just can’t help it can he, ive said it before the guy is evil no one that self centred and with out form of empathy or compassion of basically any understanding of others can not be.

These documents were requested last year, even the supreme court had to get involved and told him to hand all documents over. Which he clearly didnt as he’s kept what seems to be some important things that are highly confidential. You do have to wonder what they were and why they were kept despite the supreme court ruling

Re evil

If you need to be told how to act after a school massacre when meeting family members by others on queue cards then there is something very wrong with you.

Few things sum up trumps time in office better than this. I

He was talking about a storm that was due and he said it was heading for Alabama ( it wasn’t and no one at fema nooa etc thought so either) but rather than admit his error trump had the map he used in the white house in his presidential briefing altered to show that he and not the experts were right.

It was so pointless and bizarre and nothing issue really but it showed to the lengths and the depths he’d go to show he was right.

In case you’re wondering what a doctored weather map looks like here it is

And I’ve zoomed in on the doctored bit

Assurely they didnt just draw a crude black line on it to make trump look right on a map as serious as a weather warning.

Erm

A lawyer acting against the interests of his client would be toast. He would be sued out of existence and barred from practising.
I agree, and suspected that it was possibly a clerk with concience. I realise they would lose their job if caught, but they would be able to get employment elsewhere. Difference being a lawyer would get 'struck off' if they do that in US.

A lot / most of these documents were classified ... a lot of documents are so may be no big deal.

However I believe some of these documents were weapons grade classified as in 'for the presidents eyes only' the kind of documents that hold national security secrets including info on who and how the info came about.

If information like this gets out operatives in the field worldwide are in real trouble.

The fact that Trump has whisked these documents away to his Country Club home is a serious problem. I don't think a nation like Russia would have too much trouble getting spies into Mar-a-Lago either as guests or one of the underpaid work staff.

Gawd I wish we we're back in simpler times... Hillary's email server, lock her up etc

Trump is on record many times saying only those with something to hide plead the 5th. Yet, in his deposition in the civil case regarding him inflating or deflating the value of his properties to get loans or tax refunds he pleaded the 5th nearly 450 times.
He had good reason to do so mind, as telling the truth would have put him in jeopardy of facing criminal charges.
As much as he's using this week's events to rally the troops, the genuine prospect of the walls closing in on him is very much a reality and he will face charges for something.

Oh the irony- just beautiful,
After calling for Hillary Clinton to be jailed, in 2018 Trump signed a law that stiffened the penalty for the unauthorized removal and retention of classified documents from one year to five years, turning it into a felony offense”
