Travel Bucket List

1. Everywhere I’ve not been to see everything I’ve not seen.

2. Everywhere I have been to see everything I missed when I was there before.

3. Everywhere I have been to see everything I enjoyed seeing previously again.

Definitely New Zealand for me . It’s so far and looks amazing if you love the outdoors.

patagonia looks something special and I do fancy a week in Iceland

also never done the west or Scotland or it’s islands which look great

done quite a few listed here and some have been amazing . Hiking the Inca trail and at sunrise walking down into Machu Picchu was unreal . I thought cinque Terra was a little disappointing , looks great on photos but in the flesh slightly so. Japan was brilliant as other posters said.

I loved the Amazon rainforest as it’s literally like another world so I think I would recommend that amongst anything.

I’m lucky enough to have traveled to some bucket list places already. When I was younger (and didn’t have a kid) I wanted to see as much of the world as possible and that would still be nice, but realistically I’d rather focus on some areas than others, I don’t feel I’ve seen enough of Europe...

-Peninsula Malaysia and Singapore. Missed the chance to visit when I lived in Brunei due to the pandemic so would like to head that way again.
-Cambodia and Laos. Been to TL and VN so would love to see more and heard great things.
-Eastern Europe from the Baltic’s to the Balkans. Obviously more than one trip but I love this part of the world and if I stay in Russia it should be possible. I include Russia too as there’s so much I want to see here!
-European microstates. The geography geek in me wants to visit these tiny places, only been to Vatican City so far but Andorra is a possibility as family have property there.
-Probably Germany, I’ve somehow never got to there over the years and that needs to be sorted!

The wife would throw Antarctica in there and at various times I’ve looked at Iran, Mongolia, North Korea and a big US/Canada trip. China would have been number 1 but having met Uyghers in Kazakhstan the current situation doesn’t sit right, even though I have a good mate from Shanghai.

All of these too. And Germany is a wonderful place. Hamburg is a great place to visit. Germans are top people too. Dry, sarcastic senses of humour and decent values. Kind of like us only taller

I can highly recommend the Central Asian stans, wonderful places with plenty of hidden gems. Add to that the Caucasus states too.
Having read a book on the Silk roads, I really like the idea of going to places like Samarkand. I think I'd really enjoy a tour of the stans. Although maybe not Turkmenistan

Samarkand is outstanding with the Registan, but I much preferred Bukhara as it had a relaxed feel with stunning buildings. Khiva was great too.

Turkmenistan is one of the strangest places I visited but I loved it. Check out Darwaza gas crater as that is amazing. Ashgabat is a bizarre marble city with barely a soul on the streets, your hotel will be bugged and there are soldiers everywhere, I got busted by one whilst taking a photo when he stepped out of bushes! We had a crazy Russian guide called Oleg who was fantastic, his cure for everything was vodka, I’ve seen him mentioned in several travellers books and guides so he defo leaves an impression on people! We visited Turkmenistan as a ‘loop’ down from the Silk Road from Khiva and returning up to Bukhara. Absolutely fantastic trip and well worth it - the current horse-bothering dictator is crackers but not quite as psychotic as the previous fellah who was utterly bonkers.

Kyrgyzstan is awesome, Bishkek is an edgy soviet city and I love it, it’s not everyone’s cuppa but it’s certainly mine. Issykul lake round to Karakol is great with trekking in the mountains utterly gorgeous. Tajikistan has the Pamir highway but sadly never made it there, did get to Dushanbe which is a really pleasant city.

I lived in Kazakhstan for 5 years and it’s a massive place with extremes of steppe, desert and mountains. I love the place and would go back in a heartbeat.

My profile picture was taken in Japan, they have areal life Mario cart race on the streets of Tokyo. Just one of the many strange but seemingly normal things happening there. The food is great as are the sights. We went in cherry blossom season and it was fantastic. We will probably go again and try some coastal areas this time.
How much roughly are flights over there mate? Would it be cheaper to fly to say Germany and then get a flight to Japan that way?

I’ve been to Japan twice, once just to Tokyo and then to Tokyo and Osaka. It’s an unbelievable place and want to go back and see more. I’d like to go back to Cape Town too.

We used the American Express companion voucher and air miles so we only had to pay the tax. At a guess I would think flights would be anywhere from about £700 upwards. I’m not sure travelling to Germany first would make it much cheaper if any.

I have our itinerary and some other details, I can mail it across to you if you would like.

Places I've never been to at all and have an interest in seeing and realistic chance of going (this sort of rules out the North Pole and climbing Everest)

India with a trip on one of the the posh trains.
Foothills of Everest and Tibet.
Easter Island.
Canada (Whistler Bike Park)

We flew Air France. London to Paris, then in to Tokyo. Worth thinking about which airport you fly into if you’re planning a trip. Haneda is likely to be much closer to where you’re going than Narita

If you like the Scottish highlands youd love the South Island of NZ. and as said above I would advise to avoid Hobbitton like the plague. Awful touristy place in one of the least interesting places NZ has to offer. If you are a fan of Tolkein then the South Island tour of the locations from Twizel infinitely better. NZ has everything from fantastic beaches, great mountains for skiing and the BEST wine tours. Oh and the coffee shop culture here is second to none. You can get to see the Southern Lights from The Caitlins and Stewart Island. Sounds a perfect fit.
Long way to go for a coffee😉🤭

TBF I could have mentioned a few other places as well. Been planning for retirement in a few years time so have a big list, including a tour of Italy, tour of Spain, tour of California plus some of the other places others have. Also want to go back to Jordan, incredible place.

So much to see in the world.

Berlin. Been twice, for me it’s my favourite city. Not just for 5 days, the plan is to live there for 6 months at some point following retirement - I can’t explain why I enjoyed it so much, maybe the history, how friendly everyone else, the beer. It’s like an itch that has to be scratched.

I went to West Berlin before the wall came down. It was brilliantly mental. I think I managed about 6 hours sleep in 3 days. Someone took us up a tall building at night from which you could see most of the city and beyond....Neon island in a sea of darkness.
Like party town at the edge of the world.

Iceland
Chernobyl
Japan
Scottish highlands
Hawaii

As a photographer, everywhere in the world looks worth visiting to me
