Transfer spend in Championship

Very interesting - so far we are the only club to spend any money at all on signing permanent players.

Shows how things have changed I guess

We are 14th on net spend for the season with £2.3m more brought in than spent.

Stoke have biggest net spend at £11m and Southampton are 20th with a net spend of -£161m

It has changed yes. Covid season did for most of the Chairmen's pockets starting 20/21 with no crowds . Last winter we were the 3rd highest spenders in winter with just 1mil for Barlaser. 17 clubs spent nothing. Even summer now , if you have no parchute doh or dont sell a good asset then its all loans and frees

The January window is rarely a big spending window for the championship.

I wonder what the financial implications are for MCs transfer kitty, relating to Gibson's recent book-cooking. Will Carrick have money now, is there a clean slate regarding FFP, is it more long term to stabilise for years ahead rather than giving MC a wedge in Jan/the summer? Unlike many, im not - and do not claim to be - an expert in FFP and how the financing goes.

I like to think if a great signing was somehow available for upto 8-10m, Gibson would find it, but if its just plugging gaps and signings for the future (Silvera, Gilbert, VDB etc) then we'll carry on as we have been.

I think it’s a good sign that FFP works at this level the a certain degree. Or course, the wildcard in there is parachute payments, but teams seem to be learning the mistakes of Derby etc…
