Transfer news: Middlesbrough duo set to leave on loan as Neil Warnock discusses Nathan Wood dilemma
Boro completed the signing of Yannick Bolasie on loan from Everton earlier this week, yet their squad remains low on numbers as they enter the second half of the campaign. The Teessiders are still hopeful they can make a few more additions before the deadline, with another attacking player and a full-back on manager Neil Warnock’s wishlist.
Yet, regardless of who Boro are able to sign, the club still plan to send wingers Sam Folarin, 20, and Isaiah Jones, 21, out on loan to gain more first-team experience.
The pair have impressed for the club’s under-23 side and made senior debuts this season, yet Warnock believes their development would be aided elsewhere.
“They’ve got to go on loan, they need to go off and play some game,” said the Boro boss.
“I’ve watched them in the 23s and they need to strengthen themselves now.
“They are in a situation now when they are getting poor for the 23s so they have to go out and play now, a man’s game, and grow up a little bit.”
There have also been discussions about sending centre-back Nathan Wood, 18, out on loan this month, yet injuries to Dael Fry and Anfernee Dijksteel have left Boro short at the back.
“He’s really got to stay now,” added Warnock when asked about Wood. “He needs games, but it’s how we deal with him now that’s the question. It’s Catch-22 at the minute, really.”
