100% strava every time. Your data is open and can be imported, exported and it has a community inside it. It tracks runs, walks, swims, hikes, pretty much anything you would care to do. Map tracking, you can see other people that run the same routes as you, you can prepare routes on the desktop app, and it has tons of features without being bloated. You get personal records and can see how you stack up against various levels (friends, gender, age, today, this week, month, year, all time) and how you've done against your previous efforts on that segment - can add your own segments if you want.

I also recommend the website SmashRun, as it gives you a web based analytics dashboard of your running.

I am surprised Strava haven't been called on to help with a virus tracking app tbh.

Out of interest, why do you think Strava are best placed to provide that type of analytics? What they do isn't massively complicated, they've just packaged it up well and marketed it well too.

It's unlikely that Trump would reach out to a San Francisco based tech company to support him, that would be a loss of face in his eyes I would suspect.

I find the user interface of Strava so good. It also has a huge user base, I love "racing" against people on different sections of runs. Good analytics as well. The heart rate tracking is very good, if your recording device is good enough.

Thanks all! I have used Strava in the past but didn't think it was that great, this was some time ago so no doubt the app has developed since then. However I found it a bit 'busy' so after some other recommendations I've gone with 'map my walk' which is an under armour app. It is easy to find other walks people have created in my area which I can follow, and I like it's audio notifications while using it. I've no doubt Strava does this too and may try that as well, I could run both at the same time I guess and then pick one

thanks for the replies

I'm not talking about their analytics specifically Lizards, more that their platform would be a lot easier to add the sort of Bluetooth proximity detection to across both Android and iOS. I know Google and Apple are collaborating on something, as are those lads at Oxford I think. Adding to an existing, well tested platform like Strava would make sense to me.
You could add Runtastic, Runkeeper Fitbit et al to the list.

Strava is the go to app given its widespread useage and how many can follow your activities and it’s definitely best for cycling although I also map walks with it. Don’t find it busy in the slightest. Walks I can understand though that an app that gives you other walks easily to follow would be attractive.
