Tory MP suspended

I don't know the maths but if a single candidate stands and the math works out they perhaps should be doing that. They may still have a candidate and an agreement either not to campaign or campaign for the next nearest party
I agree. Even if it's unlikely the single candidate can beat the tory. If they stand on an anti corruption platform then the press can't cover up the corruption. They'll have to talk about it when they cover the by election and explain why the candidate is standing for that

Be fun to see John Bercow stand as an independent. Giving how his party shafted him😉

This is good. When even the man who privatised the railways thinks these guys have gone too far it's worth noting.

It's also a point that, I know a majority on here are Labour supporters and see it as a Labour v Tory thing. I don't see it as that. This lot don't represent traditional Tory values at all. It's really isn't a case of right v left at the moment. It's right v wrong

I think they are very representative of some traditional Tory values that have always been there in the Party, but you are right, they are completely unrepresentative of some other Tory values as those type of Tories have been almost completely driven out of the Party, at the same time the Ukippers swelled their membership.

Agreed. They aren’t completely anti Tory. They retain some of the less savoury and more selfish values of the traditional right. Good point about ukippers too. It’s those far right, nasty and bigoted values that they are feeding on at the moment. Then there’s the corruption which is off the scale in both its breadth and the brazen way it’s out in the open

reading that he got £500K and his client got £400M in contracts. This is why my Brasilian business partners laugh. In Brasil senators normally get 10 to 20% of the contract. Patterson at al need to learn from Brasil. We really need to up our corruption game.

Are you kidding?

No country has anything to teach us. You’re only looking at the short term questionably illegal stuff.

You need to consider how these people are looked after post Parliament, how being part of the club has you AND your friends and family set up and looked after for life.

But the real genius is that the big corruption has been absolutely legalised in our system. The only real crime is being careless and letting the public in on what you’re doing by getting a touch greedy and a touch arrogant because you forget not illegal doesn’t mean not immoral or unethical.

The whole lobbying system is immoral. You elect a candidate to represent you in Parliament not for him to be then paid a huge amount of money to represent the business interests of the payer. Under no circumstances is lobbying a feature of democracy.
