Tory MP defects to Labour

The Wakeford Defection goes beyond a politician crossing the floor, it’s symbolic and has wider meaning it exposes the lack of solidity in the Red Wall, can be used to rebut the claims of levelling up and shows that even those who, in at least part, owe their parliamentary position to the erstwhile popularity of Johnson are distancing themselves already, see also the Pork Pie Plot, this allied with David Davis, of the old guard, attack on Johnson at PMQ’s, the continued criticism coming from Douglas Ross and the Scottish Conservatives and the over arching shadow of Cummings waiting on the sidelines, shows that the idea that Johnson’s is a dead man walking is continuing to propagate from all corners.

A day of interesting political theatre.

Well today on Twitter I was told I was a Tory because I welcomed the defection, even though I welcomed it mainly because of the damage it has done to Johnson and the Tories. We live in wild times.

As a party member I have just emailed Keir Starmer to ask him to ensure that whilst he gets all the political capital he can out of this event, that he ensures that Wakeford does not become a permanent part of the Labour party.
The blokes voting record and comments about the party and party members on social media should ensure that he is not allowed anywhere near a ballot paper with the word Labour attached to his name.

I expect that from The Tories mate. And so do most of the people who vote for them. I hold Labour up to higher standards than that. Call me old fashioned but I'd prefer to have a proper Labour leader rather than a Tory-lite, untrustworthy, scumbag who is in the wrong party like Starmer in charge.

Not holding the Tories to the same high standards invites them to operate to low standards and then they do.

He’s a trophy. He will be stuck on the equivalent of a plaque and left to bounce around with the other backbenchers, and come the next election be replaced as the candidate. His majority was so small anyway…he’s probably to toxic in that constituency now. If Starmer is the operator that people claim him to be, it will get done. Real Politik.
