Tory MP arrested on suspicion of rape and banned from Commons – reports

I agree with the comments on Twitter it’s not just an allegation he’s been arrested and charges will no doubt follow.

He should be named.
No, it's still an allegation until the court has dealt with it one way or the other.
And before anybody has ago, I'm merely responding to this claim that it's not just an allegation.
Being arrested and charged does not stop it being an allegation, it's then up to the courts to decide if the allegation is true and a conviction should be entered. This can be avoided though if he pleads guilty to the allegation.
And yes, should deffo be named as it casts nasturtiums on all those other Tory male MPs who are no doubt all above board and not dodgy at all (yeah right!)

In any cases like these my first thoughts are always with those who are the alleged victims of a truly heinous and awful crime.

Sex offenders have no particular political persuasion and I would normally conclude that an MP taking advantage of their position to commit sex crimes the colour of their rosette is of little importance, however this government has an unprecedented record of criminality and seem to think they're beyond the normal process of law and the responsibility their position begins in regard to it, from Johnson making light of his FPN all the way through to the introduction of the Internal Market Bill which breaks International Law, there seems to be a culture of law breaking which continues unfettered at the top and pervades all the way through government, the MP for Romford should be treat like everybody else in these circumstances, which I believe is once arrested the accused can then be named, whether that is right or not is a wider debate but his position in government should offer no exception from what applies elsewhere.

The casting of nasturtiums on tory MP's. No additional fertiliser will be required.

Personally I don't believe any person that is arrested on suspicion of rape should be named until charges have been brought and the case heard in court.

Some knowledge here as to why the person hasn't been named yet.

Tory MP accuses female journalist of being ‘hysterical’ and this response is amazing

The question came as 56 MPs are facing accusations of sexual misconduct.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle has said the reputation of the House of Commons can only be rebuilt if “bad eggs” are dealt with.
The Commons Speaker said those who work in Parliament should not feel alone or feel they have to suffer, as he highlighted there is support available.

He also said people should go straight to the police if a criminal offence has been committed.

Rape

The Conservatives also told the unnamed MP to stay away from Parliament while on bail for allegations including sexual assault, abuse of position of trust and misconduct in public office.

But the party was resisting calls to suspend and identify the Tory, who has only been publicly identified as a man in his 50s.

Policing minister Kit Malthouse said they have to be “sensitive” about anonymity for suspects under investigation, saying it can put “enormous strain on individuals” who ultimately do not face prosecution.

With this in mind, a female journalist was heard on camera asking the PM: “‘Are you doing anything to deal with your party’s toxic culture, prime minister?’

Tory MP Royston Smith shared the clip and wrote: “They call this news. She’s almost hysterical.”

It was left to Dawn Butler MP to respond, she wrote: “Everyone in Parliament should be hysterical. Your workplace, which is also my workplace, has had people watching porn in the chamber, people allegedly taking drugs, and has had members who have been convicted for sexual assault. And there’s more under investigation.”

Everyone in Parliament should be hysterical.

Your workplace, which is also my workplace, has had people watching porn in the chamber, people allegedly taking drugs, and has had members who have been convicted for sexual assault.

And there's more under investigation.

Best suggestion I have heard in years from Nandy... shut the HoP, turn it into a museum. Move all of the old boys club out to a new modern building... preferably one without subsidised bars. Hopefully their misguided sense of entitlement will the be replace with a sense of purpose, to serve the public and not help themselves.

Not a bad idea at all. JRM would probably start home working though if he had to travel further!!!
