Tory govt clears Tory mayor

i just don't see a situation where he is not mayor after the election
I would put money on him being in still

the labour candidate has done f all to get his face about, never mind done anything worth while to challenge. Most people dont even know who he is

I see the Greens have put forward a candidate who has worked (copper) and campaigned (Tees die-off) locally.

Both Labour and Green candidates have talked about being open and transparent, but beyond that not much (maybe improved transport links (no not a monorail)).

Ultimately the number one aim is to get Houchen out, the vote is going to be potentially split between Labour and Greens.
Greens could easily win this one

so it wasnt corruption, it was just incompetence?
Ben. T and his round table were either corruptly incompetent or incompetently corrupt, or both. Yet still he will probably get voted back in. Teesside Airport will have the longest runway in World Aviation history. It will stretch from Middleton St. George to the Tees bay, with separate runways branching off both North and South to Hartlepool and Whitby. There will be numerous tram and train stops feeding into the new Eurostar terminal at Teesside Airport, which coincidentally will have 40 new Hospitals built from North Tees and at every tram and train stop along the Tyne & Wear metro extension which will be renamed the Houchen Hotel and Heliport Hub.

All hail Ben. T , the saviour of the world.

How lucky are we ?

sooooooo lucky.

what about that Jeremy Corbyn eh?

Just read today's Gazette summary of the report. Nearly threw up in disgust.

In regard to the bulk terminal it says DCS International signed a lease for the land but doesn't say that that company is a Corney/Musgrave company. Then goes on to say that Corney and Musgrave (the JV) were crucial to brokering the deal to get the Thai banks to sell their land. This, apparently, is the *good* part of the report!

That's not quite true, the problem is the local press are just not interested in anything anyone else is doing. Chris is working round the clock to get known and to meet and talk to people and challenge Houchen, the local rags just aren't interested in reporting it.

Of course all that will change when the election is in purdah, the press then have to report equally and the TVCA will have to stop posting on behalf of their lord and master Houchen.

Sorry but if you make enough noise in the right directions you get noticed. He hasnt made any noise. You can't blame the press for not reporting on someone that doesn't do/say anything worth reporting. He should have been stood beside Andy Macdonald all the way and pushing the agenda. He hasnt done any of that.

The only promotion I have seen is paid for on facebook... asking the public what they want, totally the wrong approach and you can just imagine the replies coming in. He should be saying what he wants to do different and calling Ben out on the bad parts of the report.

Whoever his campaign manager is needs sacking.

That's not entirely fair. I heard him interviewed in depth on national radio last week. It was about the potential bankruptcy of Middlesbrough Council and the underfunding of local government in general. He came across quite well. On your general point, I agree. Labour needs to be much more aggressive in holding Houchen to account.

Sadly only the national press are reporting on how Andy and Labour are holding Houchen to account, the Gazette and the Northern Echo appear to not want to upset Houchen, we had a little bit yesterday but other than that, nothing, even when it's getting plenty of column inches nationally.

Sorry, I've not made myself clear. It was Chris Cooke I heard interviewed on national radio.
The Gazette and Echo just want free copy. Houchen and Preston provide this. Labour needs to be doing the same. I've no idea about the organisation of Labour's local comms team, but they're being outperformed.

Yep, I agree Jack, I've pointed that out as well.

A good podcast on this week's report with Jen Williams of the FT and Jack Shaw, local government expert. Basically, where has our money gone?

For anyone interested in the politics of our region there's really only one story in town this week, that's the long-awaited - and long-delayed - report into the murky goings-on at Teesworks, the flagship regeneration project in the North East.

The headline news - at least if you're a Conservative supporter of the scheme - is that it cleared those involved of corruption and illegality.

But the 97-page document was not a clean bill of health and in fact had a shopping list as long as your arm of failings in the way the project is being run. It came out two days ago and the slanging match over the report's findings is still going on as we record this podcast.

Rob Parsons looks at the question, what next for Teesworks, with Jen Williams from the Financial Times, whose reporting brought some of these issues into the open, Graeme Whitfield, North East Editor of Business Live, and Jack Shaw, a local government expert who specialises in examining the inner workings of our local authorities.

The Northern Agenda is a Laudable production for Reach. It is presented by Rob Parsons, and produced by Daniel J. McLaughlin.

The problem is the local press doesn’t exist any more. You’re living in a 20th century fantasy in expecting anything from it.

Some publisher based in London’s docklands couldn’t give a monkeys about some obscure story about some obscure town 250 miles away, sure, but nor could anyone else down there. You don’t need to conspiracy to explain why.

The local press is silent on Houchen. So are yetis and the Loch Ness monster.
