"Fish and Nips" :ROFLMAO:

TOPLESS CHIP SHOP

Bizarre beyond words, but totally true.

We’re not sure who thought it was a bright idea to serve up ‘fish and nips’ on a Friday night, but this barefaced bid to boost custom definitely happened in a little chip shop near Redcar bus station in the late 1980s.

The cheeky enterprise was quickly shut down - no doubt for breaching countless health and safety concerns.

But one Gazette employee, who prefers not to be named, claims he was there on opening night.

“From what I remember they were queuing up in the street,” he said. “When we got inside there was one topless woman, who looked in her 50s, and two topless men - all covered in fat burns. To be honest, it was enough to put you off your battered sausage.”

Went in once after a night out in Redcar. It was just behind the Sandpiper, only blokes serving. I think is was only there for a few weeks, but could be wrong.

I wasn’t old enough to have been but being from Redcar i have heard of this. Pretty sure the woman was Maureen. I think she was called. She defo worked in silks with her top off in the 2000s and she will have been in her 70s then

It is just wrong on so many counts. Back in the day folk will have probably have had their skates on to see the pouting old trout. There is a time and a plaice for everything, topless service has its joys, but not in a chippy. No doubt a few will have had a dab on from what I am herring, but I am a bit crabby about stuff in my old age.

I'm glad she was called Maureen. And if she wasn't called Maureen then she should have been called Maureen.

Many years ago It was an adventure at my local chippy. The owner and main fryer had several skin tags on his eyelids. We were reluctant to ask for scraps.
