Too complex

What was the formation in that second half 🤷🏻‍♂️

I was watching it closely, it wasn’t a 4231, I thought 343 at times, other times I had no idea.

The players were interchanging all over the place, which is great if you have the players with the intelligence to do it, but we don’t.

I feel we badly need to simplify things so that the players know exactly what their roles are,

Jones was great, Silvera poor, how does McGree get the hook ahead of him 🤦‍♂️… something not right there!

I thought this too. First 10/15 mins in the first half I'm sure Silvera was playing as a right wing back. Changed numerous times throughout the game and it was difficult to grasp. I think this is part of Carrick's problem as he doesn't know his best system for the players we have, nor his best 11 for that matter.

This is what happens though. If we don’t pick up some form then Carrick leaves and the missing players miraculously return to fitness, we find a settled 13-14 players who play every week and then add 2 or 3 good players in January on the way to moving into the top half by February.

Textbook.

You have a point about missing players, if we had a fit right back it may help (as would a competent left back), but please, just simplify the system so the players and team have more structure, sadly we are not Man City.

Teams struggling need to go back to basics and build from there

It was certainly fluid second half! I think the basic shape remained 4-2-3-1 with Jones and VDB full backs. Obviously Izzy played very high.

Silvera on the right, Crooks as 10, with McGree from the left (but very narrow). When McGree was replaced by Greenwood, it changed with Crooks up top, Coburn from the left with Greenwood as 10. And then for 10 minutes before he was subbed off, Silvera seemed to move to the left with Crooks on the right.

It was very messy at the end. If we stick with 4-2-3-1 I would be tempted to move Hackney to wide left (but floating), McGree as 10 with Jones on the right. Howson and O'brien in midfield. Smith at right back, with VDB at left back (or Bangura if fit). Josh deserves to start too.

Substitutions were baffling, and have been all season tbh, we completely lose our shape and any impetus we have is gone.
Smacks of desperation tbh frantically hoping one of the subs can pull a worldie out of nowhere
Carrick needs to get a grip., I'm not impressed....

You’ve done well to follow all of that!… which is kind of my point, too complex!

Subs… Silvera was extremely poor, how does he stay on longer than McGree 🤦‍♂️… something going on there.
