Tonga v cook islands at riverside

Our best mate, a Canadian, along with his wife visited the Cook Islands a couple of years back.
They really enjoyed the people there and had a wonderful time, so much so that they were even planning a trip to North Yorkshire to visit the roots of the great explorer.
But sadly and suddenly at age 64, he passed away earlier this year so the trip didn’t materialize. I‘d love to attend this game in his honour.
What a fantastic sentiment mate, go for it and enjoy the memories.

Thank you Beverleyred. It unfortunately won’t be possible for us to make this particular match but in March my wife and I will be bringing the ashes of my recently passed younger brother back to the hills of Eston overlooking Teesside to join him up with those of our parents and favourite aunt. That long, celebratory (and eventful) journey from the Yukon to the Boro, mostly by air, is well underway with several siblings and family members participating. The Vancouver to Toronto handoff takes place this evening. It’s hard to believe 10 years have passed since our previous trip to Boro but we are really looking forward to it.

I'd recommend anybody to go and have a look at this game, it will be epic. And Tonga are not an unfancied team and for me are probably THE Dark Horses who can upset anybody on their day. There will be HUGE hits, plenty of great rugby league and some of the most passionate fans you've ever seen.
Yeah, but it's rugby

Fascinating story and incredible logistics mate. My parents ashes and one of my Brothers who died young, are scattered and buried respectively at Leak Church, which one passes on the A19 just north of Thirsk. The church has incredible history. Good luck in March.

Thanks again. We’ll be travelling through Thirsk so will check out the Leak Church.
As for our Boro, two consecutive home matches Stoke and Preston were “logistically“ selected. Hopefully we’re well sorted and on the up by then👍

Got four tickets for it but struggling to shift two of them so may offer them to two people on here as freebies. It would be a shame for them to go to waste.

I watched Tonga game last night and thought it was a great spectacle. Rugby League is a great sport to watch if you're unfamiliar and the rules are a lot less stuffy than rugby union.

Up the Islands!

indeed, not a rugby fan though always preferred League over Union as there always seemed to be more running with the ball & forward play, not endless kicking which characterised many Union games I'd seen..

Just to add that for those that didn't see the score from last night, the Cook Islands beat our neighbours from Wales. They are certainly no mugs..... a lot of them actually play in the NRL and in decent sides too. Looking forward to it - should be a bit tasty as for them its a derby with local pride at stake.
