Tomorrow’s Tributes

So far I’ve seen 3 tribute posts. I think we are supposed to applaud before the kick off in the 48th minute and at 60 something minutes.
I know people like to mark the passing of family and friends but is this all getting a little out of hand?
No doubt tomorrow people will applaud and not even know why. PNE had their Gentry Day last year here and I think that is much better.
Thoughts?

I mentioned something last year but was called jumping on the bandwagon, so trying to be constructive doesn't work on this board.

I thought Boro were intending to put something out before kick off for all that have passed away. Like at the start of last season names of fans and former Boro staff will be read out for a minute's applause.
I think this is the case.
I slso know that the fans forum were hoping to work with the club on a gentry day style tribute day during the season. Am I right in thiinking that would be a popular idea?

Really not a fan of the applause through the game. I’ve told my kids that I definitely don’t want anything like that for me. Would most welcome the club showing appreciation in another way or a gentry style day. Possibly some sort of flag thing, colours etc?

Same for me, no applause.
I’m hoping to live to 110 so it would be unfair for everybody to stay back 😂

I think a gentry day style approach is a good idea. Maybe applause at the start of the season and applause at the end

The PNE gentry day was an away fixture though…
I do think we should pick one fan Remembrance Day, for me the first home game of the year to remember all the fans and anyone affiliated to the club that passed the previous year… they could put the names and pictures on the screen…
I feel for those who put out appeals for a game applause then get nothing…

I want applause before, during and after, picture on big screen throughout, a stand named after me, and my ashes buried under the penalty spot where Britt blazed it into row 24 and at every game thereafter a chairmans drink sprinkled on that very spot pre game and a camera phone style light vigil on evening games after 13 mins to reflect the age my first season ticket was purchased.

It happened last season as the requests became more frequent. Start of the season sounds like the right time to do it, not every other game or so (unless its a boro legend/icon)

Some of the time there's one during a game and you didn't even have a clue about it taking place.

Not everyone is on social media or sees or hears about the appeal

Do you want your ashes at Kenilworth Road then or are you just picking a home penalty he blazed over :ROFLMAO:

Probably makes me sound like a ****, but I'll be stopping joining in this season as there are constant requests and the impact has completely gone on it, I don't actually know who I'm clapping for half the time now.

I don't blame any of the individuals for making the request, I fully understand it, but Boro fans will sadly die every week and it's losing meaning.

If the club are moving towards a day of remembrance, I think that's a good idea, but I'm surprised that they've just hidden it away in a Matchday Info article, without giving it any prominence.

Good point well made, definitely in front of the Riverside North Stand goal, given Kenilworth roads relatively imminent demolition, it leaves me no choice.

Sadly I agree with this. It seems to have got to the stage where it is happening most games and like you say it has completely lost any impact

Memorialisation of everything seems to be a growing trend and for me, a depressing one. Our seaside towns and country walks are littered with memorial benches with bunches of dead flowers and filthy bedraggled cuddly toys zip tied to them. Around Nov 11 we get competitive poppy wearing, who can have the biggest and blingy-est poppy, who ISN'T wearing one, etc. chap near me puts up a metal silhouette of a soldier and illuminates it for about a month either side of the day FFS. In Cockerton village near me, they have erected a NEW war memorial with rows of little crosses planted on the day and a bench with WW1 symbolism. How we managed without one before now...

Statistically there must be around 30k regular Boro fans (attend two or more games per season) plus the diaspora living abroad and those who cannot go for health, financial or other reasons and their families. We are all mortal and will one day depart this plain of existence. We "only" have 23 home league games per season. We cannot expect the club to mark every departure with a round of applause. If we need to remember our lost ones we should do it on the first or last home game of the season or perhaps the first game after the new year? Ex-players and managers too (IMO). One game, before the start of play, take a moment, move on.

I feel the start of the season is too celebratory where as 1st calendar day in January is quite reflective…

But even picking a day, some will be disappointed with the choice so I’d go on a vote and be happy with a majority decision 🤷🏼‍♂️
